Job Description

San Diego Jewish Academy is seeking a credentialed part-time Learning Specialist (50% FTE) to provide targeted academic support and differentiated instruction to students with learning differences in our Lower School (grades K-5). This position collaborates closely with classroom teachers families Learning Center Director and support staff to ensure all students can access and succeed in the general education curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:

Instruction and Support:

Provide small-group and one-on-one instruction in reading writing and math based on students individualized needs
Implement evidence-based instructional strategies and academic interventions
Support classroom teachers in differentiating instruction and applying accommodations and modifications
Use Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to promote inclusive access to curriculum

Collaboration:

Partner with general education and Jewish Studies teachers to support student learning and plan for differentiation
Collaborate regularly with the Learning Center Director to align supports and ensure appropriate services are in place
Attend and contribute to student support meetings follow IAP plans and parent-teacher conferences

Assessment and Documentation:

Conduct informal assessments and progress monitoring to guide instruction
Maintain documentation of student growth and intervention outcomes

Communication:

Maintain open respectful and proactive communication with families and team members
Serve as a liaison between families teachers administration and the Learning Center regarding student needs and services

Professional Growth:

Stay current with research and best practices in special education and inclusive instruction
Participate in school-wide professional development and special education training opportunities

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or related field
Valid Special Education teaching credential (mild/moderate or equivalent)
Experience working with students with learning differences such as dyslexia ADHD ASD and executive functioning challenges
Familiarity with assessment and progress monitoring tools (e.g. DIBELS)
A collaborative and flexible mindset with a commitment to supporting students in a pluralistic values-based educational environment
