The Opportunity

We are seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to join the Department of Accounting within Monash Business School. The Department is particularly seeking to appoint a candidate with research and teaching experience in one of the following accounting disciplines: audit and assurance; information systems; digital technologies performance measurement or management control systems.

The Department of Accounting at Monash University is one of the largest academic departments of its kind and a leader in the advancement of accounting research practice and education. It is currently ranked 10th globally by the Brigham Young Accounting Research Rankings for research over the last six years. As a Lecturer (Level B) the successful candidate will have an emerging publication record or demonstrated potential to publish in high-quality refereed journals and record of teaching experience in a tertiary environment.

As a Senior Lecturer (Level C) the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong track record of scholarly publications and/or impactful research rich experience of excellent education delivery and great leadership qualities including a collaborative approach to their work that signals their suitability for future senior academic roles.

The role encompasses a broad range of academic responsibilities including conducting high-quality research with publication in leading accounting journals and contributing to research projects potentially in a leadership capacity. The Department of Accounting also supports interdisciplinary research with a significant impact on the profession regulation and industry. The appointee will be actively involved in all aspects of teaching from delivering lectures tutorials and workshops to developing course materials coordinating programs and administering assessments. They will supervise honours and postgraduate students across coursework and research projects. Engagement in professional activities and participation in departmental and faculty governance including committee work and strategic planning are also essential components of the role.

About You

To be appointable to this role you will hold a doctoral qualification in Accounting or equivalent qualification and will demonstrate research and education experience in one or more of the following disciplines: auditing assurance digital technologies accounting information systems performance measurement or management control systems.

As a Lecturer you will have an emerging research profile demonstrated by a publication record or demonstrated potential to publish in high-quality refereed accounting journals. You will have a demonstrated record of teaching experience in a tertiary environment and a proven ability commitment and passion for engaging in scholarly and research activities.

As a Senior Lecturer you will demonstrate a strong research background with a sustained publication record in high-quality outlets. You will have led or contributed significantly to research projects secured competitive external funding and supervised postgraduate students to successful outcomes. A deep commitment to scholarly engagement is essential along with proven teaching experience in the tertiary sector including course coordination and curriculum development.

At both levels of appointment your ability to work both independently and collaboratively across academic and service settings coupled with excellent interpersonal and communication skills will support productive relationships with students colleagues and external partners. A collaborative mindset and leadership qualities will be key assets in contributing to a collegial and high-performing academic environment.
