Job Description

Job Summary:

This role involves performing all tasks related to pre-registration and registration of inpatients and outpatients. Responsibilities include securing upfront collections completing the Hospital Presumptive Eligibility training program evaluating patients to identify state program eligibility assisting with benefit applications compiling records and updating databases. For Emergency Registration Representatives additional financial counseling skills are required. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential.
Location: Whittier California United States.
Responsibilities:
- Pre-register and register inpatients and outpatients.
- Secure and calculate upfront collections (co-pays co-insurance).
- Complete the Hospital Presumptive Eligibility (HPE) training program.
- Evaluate patients to identify eligibility for state programs.
- Assist patients with benefit applications and paperwork.
- Compile records and assess information to determine eligibility status.
- Document and update patient information in the database.
- Provide financial counseling (for Emergency Registration Representatives).
- Maintain excellent communication with staff patients guarantors insurance companies and physicians.
- Adhere to HIPAA laws.
- Travel to off-site locations (Outpatient only).

Required Skills & Certifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong English language skills (speaking reading writing and math).
- Ability to learn quickly and follow directions.
- Strong computer skills (Word Excel).
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- 1 year of medical office/hospital experience (preferred).
- Medical terminology knowledge (preferred).
- Insurance knowledge.
- Strong typing skills (45 wpm).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and phone skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- HPE comprehensive training program completion.
- Drivers license (for Outpatient/Financial Counseling roles).

Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Bilingual (Spanish or Chinese Mandarin).
- Medical terminology knowledge.
- Insurance and billing experience.
- Continuing education.

Special Considerations:
- 72-hour bi-weekly shifts (11:00 am to 7:30 pm).
- Various days every other weekend.
- Orientation hours may differ from shift times.
- Ability to travel to off-site locations (Outpatient only).
