We are seeking a Data Specialist Big Data for a 12-month contract position W2 without benefits with a hybrid work schedule located in Alhambra CA 91803.
Job Summary
The Data Specialist Big Data will be responsible for the comprehensive management of a data warehouse ensuring its integrity and optimal performance. This role involves maintaining detailed documentation of data warehouse architecture datasets data dictionaries and data flows. A key responsibility will be to ensure seamless data ingestion and transformation processes. The specialist will also provide crucial support to business users enabling them to derive insights through Power BI and other reporting tools. Furthermore this position will be instrumental in planning and driving the transition to a modern analytics platform for SAPC.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the data warehouse.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation on data warehouse architecture datasets data dictionaries and data flows.
- Ensure seamless data ingestion and transformation processes.
- Support business users in accessing insights through Power BI and other reporting tools.
- Plan and drive the transition to a modern analytics platform for SAPC.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong SQL skills with in-depth experience in SQL/T-SQL and SSIS.
- Solid understanding of data modeling metadata management and data lineage using tools such as Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse.
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools like Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse.
- Proficiency in database development and administration using SQL Server Cache or InterSystems IRIS.
- Expertise in Power BI including gateway setup for hybrid environments and experience building interactive dashboards.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and business users translating business needs into scalable data solutions.
- Excellent communication documentation and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud) and managing secure data integration.
- Knowledge of data privacy and compliance frameworks (e.g. HIPAA 42 CFR Part 2).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for data integration and deployment.
Required Experience
- 8 years of progressively responsible full-time paid experience in a centralized Information Technology organization performing information systems analysis and design for complex systems.
- 4 years of hands-on experience in two or more of the following fields: data engineering database administration BI development or data architecture.
- 4 years of experience designing and managing data warehouse/data lakes in Azure (Data Lake Storage Gen2 Synapse Azure Data Factory).
- 4 years of experience with Azure Purview Azure Synapse Azure Data Factory or similar data catalog/governance tools.
- 4 years of experience with database management systems including SQL Server Cache or InterSystems IRIS and Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.
Preferred Experience
- Background in public health government or healthcare IT.
- Familiarity with Crystal Reports and legacy reporting systems.
Preferred Education
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or a closely related field.
