Job Description

Job Overview

We are hiring a Lead Product Designer (UI/UX) to lead the user interface and experience design for a mission-critical custom-built public health system modernization project. The system will serve state and local health professionals healthcare providers and administrative users by enabling disease surveillance case tracking outbreak management and electronic reporting.

The designer will play a central role in developing an accessible responsive and configurable interface that supports advanced user workflows and integrates with various public health data systems. The project involves modernizing an existing legacy application into a modular state-hosted solution using Agile methodologies and adhering to government digital and accessibility standards.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of responsive browser-based interfaces supporting core workflows such as:

    • Person-centric case and contact tracking

    • Electronic case/lab report integration

    • Deduplication management

    • Questionnaire and form customization

    • Data search visualization and export

    • Alert and message generation

    • Inter-agency communication and outreach

  • Develop consistent UI components and design standards that align with state web application guidelines and support diverse user types and workflows.

  • Ensure all UI design artifacts fully conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards including compatibility with screen readers and keyboard navigation.

  • Design visualizations and reporting tools compatible with platforms like Tableau and Kibana to support custom dashboards and saved searches.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering public health SMEs integration teams) throughout Agile sprints to translate requirements into functional user interfaces.

  • Contribute to form-building frameworks and interface designs that support data input correction review and system-wide interoperability.

Required Skill Set
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in UI/UX design for web-based data-driven applications.

  • Demonstrated experience designing accessible responsive interfaces for platforms with multiple user roles.

  • Deep understanding of and hands-on experience implementing WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards.

  • Proven ability to design workflows that support:

    • Search/filter and data export functionality

    • Customizable user dashboards

    • Real-time error resolution interfaces

    • Form and data collection customization

  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments with the ability to iterate designs in collaboration with engineering and stakeholder feedback loops.

  • Familiarity with public sector healthcare or regulatory platforms particularly those that handle sensitive data multiple integrations or system interoperability.

  • Comfortable designing for modern browser environments (Chrome Edge Firefox Safari) with mobile responsiveness and no reliance on plugins or extensions.

  • Ability to create and document designs that support integration with backend systems APIs and third-party tools used in state IT environments.
