Job Description

On-Call Clerk

REGULAR TERM (10-Month) POSITION (Monday to Friday 06:45-14:15 must be flexible with start/end times)

As one of the largest most progressive urban districts in the province Burnaby provides comprehensive educational programs and services to 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools plus a number of additional facilities. The Burnaby School District is seeking a Receptionist for the Board Office. The On-Call Clerk is responsible for filling daily vacancies by dispatching teachers and support staff replacements to meet the needs of the district. The On-Call Clerk enters a variety of data and generates reports. The On-Call Clerk performs general clerical duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determines daily vacancies selects and contacts appropriate replacements and confirms arrangements with schools for Teachers and support staff to meet the needs of the district
  • Enters a variety of data from a variety of source materials and checks for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintains office records and produces related reports (e.g. teacher-on-call usage teacher absenteeism and other statistics).
  • Performs a variety of general clerical duties.
  • Operates a variety of office equipment.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • One year clerical work experience or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of computer and software applications related to work performed.
  • Sound knowledge of office procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at the level required for the job.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.
  • Demonstrated ability to work at the level of independence and with the degree of initiative appropriate to the position.
This is a regular 10-month position working 35 hours/week. Hours of work are Monday-Friday 06:45-1415 but candidate must be flexible with the start/end times.
