The Public Employees Retirement System is recruiting for two (2) Benefit Processor (Retirement Counselor 1) positions within the Operations Divisions Calculations Section.
There is one full-time permanent position.
There is one full-time limited duration workload position. This position is expected to last through June 30 2027; however based on workload need and funding it could end at any time be extended or become permanent.
These positions are based at our headquarters office in Tigard Oregon however the successful candidates will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancies and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
These positions are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
We serve the people of Oregon by administering public employee benefit trusts to pay the right person the right benefit at the right time.
What you will be doing:
The purpose of the Retirement Counselor 1 (Benefit Processor) is to determine retirement eligibility and benefits and provide information to members beneficiaries and employers on rights and benefits. The position researches member/employer information regarding contracts laws regulation and statutes to determine specific retirements between tiers and job groups. The Retirement Counselor 1 (Benefit Processor) computes and processes benefit payments and employer and employee contributions. This position reconciles employer and member accounts.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Retirement Counselor 1 (Benefit Processor)
One year of experience researching or reconciling accounts AND explaining rules programs or procedures.
OR
One year of calculating payment amounts AND explaining rules programs or procedures.
OR
12 quarter (8 semester) college level credit hours in Accounting Finance or Business Administration.
Candidates who are the most competitive will possess the following skills background and areas of experience:
Experience working in a professional collaborative high-paced team environment.
Demonstrates the technical ability to learn utilize and navigate multiple computer systems and programs often at the same time.
Can manage multiple tasks and responsibilities through effective prioritization and attention to detail.
Utilizes analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate information/data identify discrepancies and determine possible solutions.
Maintains efficiency and organization in a high-volume production environment.
Communicates clearly both verbally and in writing with team members and managers regarding processes and outcomes.
Experience calculating benefits while adhering to strict guidelines rules and regulations.
Current or previous Oregon PERS experience or other pension plan experience preferred.

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%.
