Overview

Welcome to Saint Joseph East a 217-bed full-service community hospital located in a convenient setting in Lexington Kentucky. Saint Joseph East also includes the Womens Hospital at Saint Joseph East which is dedicated to supporting the well-being of women in Central and Eastern Kentucky and serves a 16-bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Responsibilities

As our NICU Nurse at CHI Saint Jospeh East now part of CommonSpirit Health formed between Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health youll focus on the safety of the newborn with kindness and compassion.

To thrive in this role youll need to appreciate that routine is never routine. We have some wonderful days in this department and get to be with people through huge milestones in their lives. We also have some hard days and are with people as they grieve. You must be sensitive and understanding to different circumstances. Above all else you must remain calm in an emergency. A newborns status can change quickly and its never good for the mother or family to see the nurse in a panic. Youre calm. Youre in control. Youre handling the situation.

  • Educate patients on various interventions or procedures
  • Assess newborn and provide care.
  • Communicate with the care management team including physician or midwife lactation nurse charge nurse postpartum unit patient and family

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree (ADN) in Nursing from an accredited nursing college or program
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license cleared by the Kentucky Board of Nursing or with eNLC multi-state practice privilege
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required to obtain within 6 months post hire
  • Neonatal Resusitation Program (NRP) required to obtain within 90 days post hire
  • Previous L&D and/or NICU experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN)
