Job Description

The State of Montana has a decentralized human resources (HR) system. Each agency is responsible for its own recruitment and selection. What are we looking for

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Business or Public Administration Criminal Justice or related field based on the mission of the agency; and
  • Substantive professional and progressive experience leading professional level employees and independently guiding organizational objectives toward successful conclusions.
  • Alternate forms of education/experience considered on a case-by-case basis

Preference will be given to candidates with specific experience:

  • Serving in or directly supporting law enforcement entities.
  • Leading or supporting a business entity with board oversight.
  • Testifying in front of a legislative body or similar decision-making body.

Competencies:

Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn:

  • Governmental budgeting grant processes and fund distribution processes.
  • Diverse program requirements within MBCCs charge; and
  • Legislative processes and state government rules and regulations.

Ability to:

  • Provide effective leadership vision and direction within an organization;
  • Testify provide information and work with a political governing body;
  • Exercise judgment and discretion to establish and maintain strong working relationships utilizing strong collaboration facilitation and project management skills;
  • Effectively communicate with diverse levels of management and stakeholders;
  • Oversee diverse program impacting law enforcement entities and citizens;
  • Prioritize projects to ensure multiple and competing priorities are met; and
  • Oversee the development of policies administrative rules standards and guidelines.

The Montana Board of Crime Control (MBCC) was created in 1968 as a planning and research agency under the authority ofMCA whose goal was and still is to promote public safety. The MBCC is an 18-member quasi-judicial board appointed by the Governor. MBCC provides financial support technical assistance and supportive services to state and local criminal justice agencies. The board provides funding to local regional and statewide projects with the central goal of making Montana a safer state. The Montana Board of Crime Controls mission is to proactively contribute to public safety crime prevention and victim assistance through planning policy development and coordination of the justice system in partnership with citizens government and communities in Montana. In support of this mission MBCC is comprised of dedicated employees possessing a shared vision of public service for Montanas most vulnerable citizens.

The Executive Director of MBCC reports to the Chairman of the Board and oversees a state agency consisting of twenty-one employees. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement the agencys strategic vision and operational plans.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations including budget management staffing and program delivery.
  • Lead and manage a high-performing team fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including state government leadership elected officials grantors and key stakeholders contributing to the success of the agencys mission.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws policies and regulations.
  • Represent the agency publicly advocating for its mission and programs.

The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator a skilled manager and have a particular passion for supporting public safety related issues in communities across Montana.
