Description:
Middle school science teachers are responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical
strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in grade seven. Middle school teachers must work collaboratively with their school based team and fellow science teachers and the K-8 Director of STEM and Science Coach throughout the year to continually improve the experience and performance of our students. Teachers should be well versed in Massachusetts Middle School Science Standards as well as Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices and Universal Design to ensure access to content for all students. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.
Requirements:
-Bachelors Degree in Science and/or Education
-Massachusetts Teaching Licensure
-SEI Endorsement
Preferred Requirements:
-Masters Degree in Education and/or Science
-3 or more years of high school teaching experience
-Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language
-Experience working in an urban public schools setting
-Foreign Language Proficiency
Duties:
-Plan and facilitate science lessons for in person learning remote instruction and any
hybrid model applicable to the 25-26 school year model.
-Use all available technology curricula provided by the district to create engaging science
lessons that are linked with 21st Century skills and remote accessibility
-Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate
students and limit disruptions
-Administer assessments and utilize available data to make instructional decisions that
target the academic and linguistics needs of students including MCAS and ACCESS as
well as district wide formative assessments
-Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for students on IEPs and English Learners
-Incorporate language activities into science instruction including Speaking Reading and
Writing that align with State Standards for Language Proficiency
-Utilize available data to make instructional decisions that target the academic and
linguistics needs of students
-Plan and facilitate science lab activities when aligned with State Standards with the
appropriate safety protocols and necessary training
- Communicate with student families on a regular basis using culturally responsive
strategies that promote two-way conversations
-Assist in ordering and managing supplies necessary for science classrooms
-Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is
relevant to the challenges of urban education in order to close opportunity gaps
-Collaborate with guidance counselors to refer students who are in need of Social
Emotional support
-Proctor assessments for students on exams including MCAS and ACCESS
-Collaborate with Special Education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and
ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered
-Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events which may be assigned by the Principal
Assistant Principals and K-8 Director of STEM
Salary/Benefits:
in accordance with the Everett Public Schools Teachers Association Contract.
