Theater Technician
Moses Lake High School
7.50 hrs per day/180 days per year
Shift time is subject to building needs.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Theater Technician provides comprehensive technical instructional custodial and supervisory support for the Moses Lake High School performing arts programs and theater facility. This includes working with music and drama staff supporting students in grades 912 and coordinating technical theater operations such as lighting sound set construction and stage management. This position plays a key role in both instructional support during classes and technical support during rehearsals performances and community events. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is essential.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience supporting technical aspects of theater productions (sound lighting set design etc.).
- Ability to work independently and problem-solve in a fast-paced performance environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate positively to students staff and the community.
- Demonstrated ability to support students in grades 612 in both academic and extracurricular settings.
- Willingness to work with students with disabilities and behavior challenges.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. move equipment and navigate stairs in a theater setting.
- Availability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Must be flexible committed to a team oriented approach professional proactive and positive.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist music and drama teachers in classrooms rehearsals and performances.
- Assist with all aspects of theater production including sound lighting set construction costumes and backstage coordination.
- Perform technical work in the operation and use of a comprehensive high school auditorium; communicate with other personnel to develop plans and determine production students during transitions performances and off-stage activities.
- Perform technical duties for productions including construction of sets and props assembly and use of sets painting lighting and other related duties to provide students access to a high quality learning options and a variety of activities; break down and store sets.
- Operate a variety of audio and visual equipment lighting sound and other equipment; provide technical information regarding proper operations as necessary.
- Assist in the design and preparation of light plots as assigned.
- Follow and when applicable enforce District rules regulations and policies for auditorium usage; ensure compliance with safety and fire standards and rules and regulations.
- Ensure proper safety measures are followed by theater users including regulations under OSHA and NFPA electrical and life safety codes.
- Maintain a variety of related records.
- Coordinate with community organizations and district personnel to develop and maintain the production calendar to ensure the efficient management of internal and external performance requests facility rental and space use.
- Maintain inventory of production items and stock; assist with the preparation of event or production billing.
- Maintain theater fixtures equipment machinery and rigging; coordinate repairs and projects with district maintenance staff so that issues are addressed timely and in a cooperative manner; schedules or coordinates relevant facility inspections.
- Implement behavior support and de-escalation strategies when needed.
- Observe and document student performance and behavior as directed.
- Support students with a range of abilities including those with special needs or behavioral challenges.
- Collaborate with staff and community organizations to promote safe and productive use of the theater.
- Support school and community events including community theater and rental groups.
- Assist with production scheduling billing recordkeeping and purchasing.
- Maintain district assigned email account reading and responding to emails promptly.
- Model positive respectful and professional behavior when interacting with students staff parents and the public.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
- Maintain clean sanitary and organized theater and work areas.
- Maintain punctuality and regular attendance; enter absences into the district absence management system.
- Other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Criminal history clearance through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
- Within the first year of employment successfully complete the Washington State Fundamental Course of Study for Paraeducators provided by the District as defined in RCW 28A.413.070 and continue to meet future requirements as mandated by the State.
