Hourly Rate: $21.63
Duties & Responsibilities
- The Prevention Specialist is responsible for providing challenging rigorous and relevant educational experiences for each student affording them the opportunity to achieve their full academic intellectual physical social and emotional potential.
- Coordinate and facilitate school-based activities and parent education services at assigned Hi-Five and Prevention Counseling school(s).
- Responsible for completing all program data and quality monitoring of Prevention programming adherence to DCF licensing standards data entry contract compliance and active participation in the local county substance abuse coalition.
- The Prevention Specialist serves as a point of contact at the school facilitating ongoing communication with teachers students and training and support to teachers parents and support staff to enhance the delivery of services to identified youth.
- Coordinates and implements Prevention summer programming through supervising staff and coordination with local Sheriffs Department (or sponsoring agency).
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited College or University in Social Work Human Services preferred. Or an Associates Degree with at least one year of relevant experience required. If no degree may substitute additional years of related experience and education.
- 2 years experience working with youth in school counseling or other therapeutic environment required. Experience in delivery of conflict resolution or social skills curriculum strongly preferred. Experience working with families in supportive and developmental capacity preferred.
- Teaching communication (verbal written listening) organizational (prioritizing tasks maintaining case notes) counseling child development documentation activity planning motivation creativity data collection.
- Must have an appropriate and valid state drivers license and be able to meet requirements for Eckerds Auto Insurance and be able to drive for business purposes.
- Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.

About Our Program:
Eckerd Connects Prevention/Intervention Counseling services are provided to all students in Grade K-6 through individual or group counseling which combines character education with evidence-based substance abuse and violence prevention interventions. Evidenced-based Substance Abuse Prevention Curricula is taught in group settings aimed at building and strengthening students social skills impulse control decision making and self-esteem and delivered through weekly sessions which include role playing modeling thematic art projects conflict resolution games and recreational activities. Students in need of more intensive interventions receive additional individualized counseling. Additionally the program involves students in community service projects that relate to their specific intervention plans and goals.
School Based prevention services provide prevention education to students through a Universal Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) model called Hi-Five. This is a multicomponent program that combines school-based prevention and intervention practices specifically designed to promote young peoples SEL. Hi-Five Clubs provides students with opportunities to contribute to their school and community and experience the satisfaction sense of belonging and enhanced motivation that comes from such involvement.
