THIS POSITION IS FOR 8 HOURS PER DAY AT 205DAYS PER YEAR.
PAY FOR POSITION: PSE Salary Schedule Level 12 - $ 36.79 (through August 31 2025) then $37.71 (beginning September 1 2025)
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Transportation Director this position is responsible for the coordination of assignments on regularly scheduled routes special events and field trips necessary to meet the compliance of time schedules for safe and efficient transportation operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Depending upon individual assignments the Dispatcher may perform all or a combination of the following:
1. Operates and communicates face to face and via two way radio bus stop information route data directions or other pertinent information to district mobile personnel.
2. Coordinates the assignment of bus drivers and equipment to ensure optimum use of resources.
3. Schedules and coordinates home to school special education and field trip transportation for the purpose of meeting the organizational needs and goals. Maintain necessary documentation and data to support the transportation of students.
4. Provides information concerning routes stops schedules safe riding practices late arrival and departures rules and regulations to the community and schools.
5. Calls 911 for police or medical assistance as required. Arranges for emergency transportation in the event of an accident or breakdown. Communicates with mechanics concerning equipment damage or breakdown.
6. Provides input and instruction to substitute drivers and assistants.
7. Provide and promote excellent public relations and customer service with district staff parents schools and community members.

8. May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams. Models appropriate and cooperative behavior including confidential information consistent with district ethical guidelines.
9. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
10. Ability to take initiative work independently in a team environment and exercise sound decision making skills.
11. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
12. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students staff parents and community members within a diverse environment.
13. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Director of Transportation or designee.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Required to deal with distraught or difficult individuals on radio telephone or in person; may be involved with sensitive or controversial transportation matters; required to meet inflexible scheduling deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to effectively use fingers hands and arms; speak and hear clearly; sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; and bend twist walk and reach requiring ordinary physical effort are all required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Education training skills and experience necessary to carry out the assignment with two (2) years of dispatching experience desirable; Washington State Pupil Transportation Management Certificate desirable; skill in coping in a stressful environment and deescalating situations.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to read write speak and communicate both orally and in writing effectively. Knowledge of the geographic region school locations district bus routes and student transporting equipment. Demonstrated ability to operate computer system and to learn computer mapping and required application programs. Knowledge of buses and equipment. Knowledge of a variety of student handicaps and their transportation requirements. Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals in a courteous and tactful manner and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to handle problems and stressful situations quickly and effectively and apply proactive problem solving skills.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestations abuse injury or neglect of a minor. Must complete training in and adhere to district infection control plan. Must have or obtain CPR and first aid certification. May be required to obtain a valid Washington state Class B commercial drivers license with passenger and air brake endorsement.
