The Middle School Teacher position is responsible for fostering a nurturing engaging and inclusive learning environment for all students. Using the academys mission and vision to guide their work the Middle School Teacher will create lesson plans provide instruction and structure learning environments based on research best practices and data supporting students with dyslexia dysgraphia dyscalculia and ADHD.
This position is an integral part of the Middle School team and needs to be able to foster and support a collaborative environment as well as be able to communicate effectively with students colleagues and families.
Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding children as a priority.
Planning and preparing learning activities for teaching study skills through science and geography content.
Providing an environment and culture in the classroom that engages students and helps them learn more effectively.
Developing learning strategies to help a range of students achieve success.
Designing and adapting instruction to meet a range of student learning needs and interests.
Encouraging students creative expression incorporating student interests and passions and developing critical thinking.
Implementing key components of a Groves Academy education such as relationship development with students knowledge of the student learning profiles evidence-based decision-making and differentiation.
Communicating with parents on a regular basis by email or phone conferences and progress report writing.
Upholding the Characteristics of Teacher Excellence at Groves Academy.
Participating in professional development opportunities.
Provides information to supervisors co-workers and parents by telephone in written form e-mail or in person.
Serves as an advisor to the MS community.
Attends annual training sessions as required.
Performs miscellaneous projects and completes various tasks as requested by Division Directors and/or the Vice President of Learning/Head of School (school events field trips study hall coverage)
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education Experience and Credentials
BA/BS degree in Education
Two or more years of teaching in an educational institution
Experience teaching in the area of LD/ADHD is highly preferred
Training and Licensure in Special Education are desirable
Wilson or Orton-Gillingham methods preferred
Science and World Geography teaching experience preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Expertise in working with students with dyslexia dysgraphia dyscalculia and ADHD
Experience and knowledge of how to teach executive functioning skills to students.
Ability to be adaptable to changing circumstances.
Creativity and the ability to generate new ideas from a unique perspective.
Knowledge of and sensitivity to the special needs of students.
Able to treat each student with respect fairness flexibility and in a professional manner.
Demonstrate commitment to diversity equity and inclusion through continuous development and modeling inclusive behaviors.
Able to use appropriate technology including MS Office software (Word and Excel) Internet communication systems online grading systems and assistive technology.
Able to select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when teaching new things.
Able to clearly and effectively communicate information and ideas in writing verbally and using a variety of media so that students will understand.
Able to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words written material multimedia and audiovisual sources.
Understand and maintain the confidential nature of student organization and employee information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform This Job
Incumbent must be able to:
Hear speak and effectively verbally communicate in the English language including following oral and written instructions in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization.
Sit at a desk for extended periods of time and perform long hours of work sitting at a computer and in meetings.
Stand or sit for extended periods of time and perform long hours of work teaching in the classroom.
Apply manual dexterity and visual acuity for computer keyboarding and office equipment use and review detailed reports and information.
Move around the school and office area repeatedly throughout the day.
Tools and Equipment Used
Staff members must be able to use computers telephones photocopiers scanners Smart Boards adaptive equipment and related office and educational equipment.
Work Environment
The work environment is usually indoors; however there is exposure to inclement weather when outdoors on school grounds or accompanying students on field trips.
