As a Discovery Clerk youll be at the forefront of legal proceedings responsible for reviewing and redacting sensitive evidence from law enforcement agencies. Youll use cutting-edge audio/visual editing programs to refine digital data and specialized PDF tools to redact documents. Your work will directly ensure compliance with the Arizona Bill of Victims Rights the Arizona Revised Statutes and established case law.

We Require
Three years of work involving legal procedures terminology or administration in a legal court law enforcement or justice system setting
High school diploma or GED
Post-secondary education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
A certificate of completion from a Legal Assistant or Paralegal Studies programmay substitute for two years of the required experience

Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and editing PDF files
Job Contributions
Identifies witnesses mentioned in documents audios and videos to those who have been on a Notice of Disclosure court filing researches information for those witnesses and notifies the paralegal and prosecutor that there may be additional witnesses
Identifies additional evidence that is mentioned in reports that has not yet been requested from law enforcement agencies
Reviews organizes indexes redacts and Bates stamps pertinent documents for disclosure/discovery and for use in court
Utilizes several software and case management systems to organize photos video and audio files received from law enforcement agencies
Reviews evidence submitted by law enforcement agencies to determine what victim information or other specialized information needs to be removed to comply with Victims rights under Arizona law
Reviews evidence including BWC evidence to flag relevant probative footage frames of either an inculpatory or exculpatory nature for further review by paralegals and prosecuting attorneys
Digitizes case files designates electronic storage locations and creates hyperlinks to assist attorneys with easy access
Creates a detailed table of contents for video redaction including what was redacted and the reason
Downloads evidence from secure servers and portals converts to universal file extensions and imports into compatible redaction software programs based on the file type.
Itemizes and indexes each item of evidence
Uses case management system to create and modify discovery letters including all pertinent descriptions of each item how each item can be accessed by the defense and the method of disclosure
Updates and modifies discovery logs with bates numbers pertinent dates and locations of items as well as notes about specific item from law enforcement agencies
Draft discovery notices and correspondence and include accurate disclaimers
Collaborates with prosecuting attorneys and paralegals to ensure uniformity of procedures and practices Office-wide relating to discovery
Follows employee and prosecution policies and procedures pertaining to redaction and discovery
Complies with court rules
Tracks work statistics for Monthly Reports and other internal office audit reports
Working Conditions
Mostly office setting that may require long periods of sitting while completing computer activities and moving about to perform tasks
Ability to move up to 40 pounds floor to waist and push/pull up to 40 pounds a distance of up to 100 feet
May be required to utilize a personal or county-owned vehicle to travel to and from other county locations
The Maricopa County Attorneys Office requires a thorough background check of all successful candidates and is authorized to test prospective employees for the presence of illegally accessed testing is conducted once an offer has been extended and prior to placement
A hybrid or alternative work schedule can be considered after your first 6 months of employment. This is based on the business needs at the time of the request
