Job Description

A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY INTENSIVE IN RESEARCH AND COMMITTED TO TEACHING INNOVATION

The Department of Humanities Pompeu Fabra University Barcelona invitesapplications for a 5-year tenure track positionin the fieldofFrench Philology

Area of Specialization:French literary and cultural studies and French language

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

a)Hold a doctorate degree. In the case that the degree is from a foreign university the selected candidate must apply for the homologation or equivalence to the academic level of doctor before the end of the tenure track period.
b)In the case that the doctorate degree is from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra the candidate must have been contractually unattached for a minimum period of two years from the date of obtaining the doctorate degree.
c)Not to have been separated by means of disciplinary proceedings from the service of any of the public administrations nor to have been disqualified by a final judgment for the development of public functions. In the case of being a national of another State not being disqualified or in an equivalent situation or having been subject to disciplinary or equivalent sanction that prevents in their State in the same terms the access to public employment positions.

These participation requirements must be fulfilled on the first day of the deadline for submitting applications must be able to be accredited at any time during the selection process and must continue to be fulfilled on the date of signing the contract.
The merits of the application will always be taken into account in relation to the first day of presentation of applications.

This position is ruled by theAgreement of the Board of Governors of the 6th of July2016 on the system for attracting and retaining talent. Short-listed applicants will beinvited to deliver a public seminar and interviewed by the selection commitee andfaculty members.

The position involves a five-year fixed-term contract. One year before the contractexpires the Tenure-Track researcher will be assessed by a DepartmentsCommittee. The outcome will determine whether the Tenure Track researcher isrecommended to stay in the position as a permanent researcher or whether thecontract will be terminated at the end of the fifth year.

Selection process

The selection process will be divided into two phases. 1. The first phase will consist of an evaluation of the merits of each candidate evaluation for which his/her presence will not be necessary. The evaluation of the different candidates will respond to the following criteria (out of a total of 100 points):

research CV with particular attention to research related to the specific field and profile of the position;:a Tenure-Track ( 40 points out of 100).

and management CV of the candidate with particular attention to teaching experience related to the specific field and profile of the Tenure-Track program (30 points out of 100 for teaching experience; 10 points out of 100 for management experience).

project related to the specific scope and profile of the Tenure-Track program to be carried out during the years of validity of the Tenure-Track contract (5-10 pages) (20 points out of 100).

The selection committee will agree in the same act before assessing the candidates the minimum score to pass the first phase.

The following will be positively valued as merits: 1) the teaching and research demonstrated in the following fields: French literary and cultural studies and French language; 2) national and international background in research and teaching projects grants and contracts; 3) experience in interdisciplinary research which may link two or more of the four fields of the Department (Art History Literature and Thought); 4) the ability to teach in Catalan Spanish and French. The ability to teach in English will be positively valued.

candidates selected in the first phase will participate in the second phase which will be structured and scored (out of a total of 100 points) as follows:

score that the candidate has obtained in the first phase (30 points out of 100).

2.2.A public seminar given by the candidate on his/her research teaching and research project related to the specific field and profile of the Tenure-Track program (40 points out of 100).

interview with the candidate by the Selection Committee also public (30 points out of 100).

Linguistic requirements: the candidate must demonstrate during the second phase the ability to carry out research and teaching in French as well as in Catalan and/or Spanish. The ability to work and teach in the three official languages of the UPF (Catalan Spanish and English) is not a prerequisite but will be positively valued.

In this second phase the Selection Committee will take into account in addition to the quality of the research and teaching seminar given by the candidate aspects such as his/her potential to lead and/or join competitive research groups within the department and the research and teaching competence that the candidate has demonstrated in the recent past.

In this second and definitive phase the members of the Selection Committee may agree on partial and total scores for each of the finalist candidates. They may also issue individual votes proposing a specific candidate for hiring an individual vote that must also be duly justified on the basis of the aforementioned scoring system. In this case the Selection Committee will propose for the Tenure-Track contract the candidate who obtains more than 50% of the individual votes cast (3 or more votes out of a total of 5 votes/members of the Selection Committee).

Documentation
Applicants should provide:

a) Copy of your DNI/NIE/Passport.
b) Candidates doctoral degree or receipt accrediting that the application has been made.
c) Candidates research CV.
d) CV of teaching and management of the candidate.
e) A pdf copy of a research published by the candidate (a single journal article or book chapter) of the candidates choice and by way of his/her presentation as a researcher.
f) A pdf copy of the detailed teaching program (syllabus evaluation criteria bibliography etc.) of a course taught in the past by the candidate and related to the candidates field of knowledge and profile.
g) Brief report of the research project related to the field of knowledge and profile of the application to be carried out by the candidate during the 5 years of the TenureTrack contract (maximum length: 1 or 2 pages).

Candidates who do not submit all the required documentation or who do not meet the requirements will be excluded from the process.
If copies are provided the original documents may be requested at any time.


Submission of applications: the application must be submitted no later than April 20 2025 (11.59 PM CET).
Incorporation of successful candidate: June 2025.

One year before the contract expires the candidate will be assessed by the Departments Teaching Staff Committee. The outcome will determine whether the candidate is recommended to stay in the position as a permanent researcher or whether the contract will be terminated at the end of the year. In the event of a negative assessment the candidate will have a further year on the contract prior to its expiry.

Candidates receiving a positive assessment will have one year in order to secure accreditation from the Agncia per a la Qualitat del Sistema Universitari de Catalunya (AQU Catalunya or the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency) in order to be eligible to fill a permanent post.
