Job Description

Are you looking for a high-powered co-op for Fall 2025 Are you ready to make a real impact and bring your fresh perspective to help MISO keep the lights on for 45 million people across 15 U.S. states and a Canadian province

If so we invite you to explore the opportunity of participating in our Systems Operations Co-op!

As our Systems Operations Engineering Co-op you will contribute to the Operations Support team by helping maintain MISOs Energy Management System (EMS) ensuring its availability and accuracy. Youll play a vital role in supporting system reliability enabling efficient market operations and providing key data to internal operators and customers.

Youll gain hands-on experience with:
- MISOs EMS tools
- Real-time power system modeling and operations support
- Industry platforms like PSSE and Powertech
- Outage coordination and stability analysis

A great day in this role means youve kept critical EMSs running smoothly supported real-time operational decision-making and contributed to reliable grid operations serving millions.

This is a unique opportunity because:
- Youll interact with more teams in the control room than almost anyone outside the Shift Manager
- Your work directly feeds into reliability coordination and energy market operations
- Youll collaborate across IT modeling and operational support teams
- Youll help run one of the largest EMS systems in the country

Details at a Glance:
- Term: Aug 20 Dec 12 2025 Full-time Paid
- Location: Carmel IN Housing available for qualified students
- Academic Level: Undergraduate (Juniors and Seniors)
- Degree: Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering

- Required Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Completion of core Electrical Engineering courses especially in power systems control systems and circuits

- Preferred Skills:
- Programming experience (e.g. Python MATLAB or C)
- Familiarity with Energy Management Systems (EMS) or grid operations tools
- Experience with power flow software (PSSE PowerWorld)
