Job Description

Texas A&M UniversityTexarkana is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Coach for Track & Field and Cross Country. This position supports the Head Coach in all aspects of operating a competitive NCAA Division II program in alignment with the universitys mission the Lone Star Conference and NCAA guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the planning organization and supervision of all training practice sessions and competition schedules for mens and womens cross country and track & field programs.
  • Specialize in and coach specific event groups (e.g. distance sprints throws jumps) as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Assist with the recruitment and retention of high-character academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes.
  • Promote the academic athletic and personal development of student-athletes through mentoring discipline and consistent support.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including travel planning budgeting inventory compliance and documentation.
  • Ensure student-athlete compliance with all university NCAA and Lone Star Conference rules and regulations. Represent the university positively in the community participate in fundraising alumni outreach and team-related events.
  • Assist in transportation of athletes to/from athletic events which may include driving a full-size passenger van or other large capacity vehicle.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) year previous high school collegiate or higher-level coaching and playing experience.
  • General knowledge of NAIA and NCAA rules.
  • Knowledge of word processing spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
  • Must have a State of Texas or Arkansas class C vehicle operators license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Acceptable driving record and periodic completion of van safety course
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical Requirements -
    • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Working in all weather conditions exposure to high noise levels standing throughout the day the ability to use a loud voice at practices and events and physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players.

  • This position may be required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations in accordance with System policy and is further required to complete FERPA and HIPAA training as a condition of employment within a reasonable timeframe after employment and on an as-needed basis thereafter.
