Job Description

Description

We are seeking a motivated working student or intern to contribute to the development of next-generation quantum sensing hardware with a focus on RF systems. Your tasks will include assisting in the design assembly and characterisation of RF optoelectronic and mechanical components integrated into our high-performance microscopy platforms. You will support experimental measurements aimed at imaging functional activity in advanced integrated circuits with particular emphasis on signal integrity and RF performance. The role also includes supporting daily lab operations such as component logistics and system maintenance.

This position is well suited for someone interested in precision RF instrumentation and its application in quantum sensing and semiconductor analysis.

Who we are
QuantumDiamonds is a pioneer in quantum sensing leveraging nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamonds to develop precise and non-destructive imaging solutions. Founded in 2022 as a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich we are rapidly expanding with strong industry partnerships and innovative technologies. Our Munich-based lab equipped with state-of-the-art facilities drives breakthroughs in semiconductor failure analysis and other applications. Backed by leading investors we are at the forefront of quantum technology innovation.
Why join Quantum Diamonds
At QuantumDiamonds youll be part of a passionate and multidisciplinary team shaping the future of quantum sensing technology. We offer a collaborative environment at the cutting-edge of science and technology in the center of Munich. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in advanced optics imaging and quantum physics all while contributing to real-world industrial applications. Together we aim to revolutionize semiconductor manufacturing and beyond
What will you do
In this role you will support RF system integration for our quantum diamond microscope by developing and optimising RF delivery systems that enable device operation and signal readout.

You will be involved in hands-on tasks helping transition designs from concept to functional hardware.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assembling and testing RF hardware using equipment such as spectrum analysers VNAs and oscilloscopes
  • Supporting lab experiments and real-time measurements with our quantum sensing microscope
  • Assisting in the simulation and modelling of RF structures (e.g. antennas) usingAnsys HFSS or related tools
  • Contributing to schematic design and PCB layout
  • Performing soldering and basic electronics assembly tasks
What is expected of you
We are seeking a curious and self-driven student eager to explore the interface of RF engineering and quantum technology. You should enjoy hands-on experimental work and approach technical challenges with a structured and analytical mindset.

Requirements:

  • Enrolment in a Bachelors or Masters programme in Electrical Engineering Physics or a related field
  • Experience with RF simulation tools such as Ansys HFSS
  • Familiarity with PCB design software (e.g. KiCAD Altium)
  • Strong attention to detail a proactive attitude and good problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficiency in English (German is a plus)
  • Availability to work up to 20 hours per week with flexibility during exam periods
