Job Description

Colby Community College is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to join the Adult Education Department as an academic instructor at the Norton Correctional Facility. This in-person position requires a strong commitment to serving high-risk and underserved populations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to follow established policies and procedures work effectively as part of a collaborative team and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. A high level of integrity innovative thinking strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality are essential for success in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain required credentials and certifications.
  • Collaborate with CCC NCF and KDOC staff to assist residents with enrollment in educational programming that aligns with the Education and Employment Plan.
  • Work with NCF and CCC staff to facilitate the recruitment and onboarding of students.
  • Conduct educational and career assessments and record results.
  • Create and disseminate callouts for NCF.
  • Submit weekly academic lesson plans to the Adult Ed Director.
  • Provide academic instruction at designated times at both locations.
  • Monitor and take action regarding student attendance.
  • Maintain and submit weekly attendance records.
  • Conduct student conferences.
  • Develop and maintain Education and Employment Plans.
  • Request records and transcripts to determine eligibility and gather necessary information for programming.
  • Provide case management services to support students in completing educational programs aligned with their Education and Employment Plan.
  • Collaborate with students and KDOC NCF and CCC staff to ensure seamless transitions between educational levels.
  • Provide student coaching to maximize course completion and overall success.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records logs and data.
  • Work with instructors administrators and staff to address student needs and mitigate educational barriers.
  • Provide students with education and employment counseling.
  • Assist students with job placement activities including job searches applications rsums cover letters and interview preparation.
  • Track students post-release to monitor progress assess needs and collect data.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and initiative.
  • Maintain attention to detail especially regarding client paperwork and tracking outcomes in the AESIS data system.
  • Provide services independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Maintain professional relationships with residents.
  • Adhere to all KDOC safety requirements.
  • Participate in and complete required professional development.
  • Work ethically and independently.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by supervisors and/or college administrators.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree.
  • Ability to present and teach basic academic skills including reading writing and mathematics.
  • Basic technology skills including virtual meeting platforms.
  • Ability to obtain clearance from Norton Correctional Facility (NCF) and the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC).

SALARY
$38500-$45000 depending on credentials.

Colby Community College is located in northwest Kansas approximately 50 miles from the Nebraska and Colorado borders. From a humble beginning of 99 students in 1964 CCC now serves more than 2400 students annually.

In addition to a 57-acre main campus a 60-acre farm is used as a hands-on laboratory and training facility. The College also accommodates hundreds of off-campus students through face-to-face online and hybrid courses.
