Paralegal III ROLE We need an experienced Paralegal III to support the United States Attorneys Office (USAO) for the District of South Carolina in Columbia. The USAOs Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) program seeks civil remedies in cases involving fraud health and safety violations and other misconduct. In this role you will provide independent legal and investigative support to Assistant U.S. Attorneys and investigators. You will be responsible for handling complex litigation tasks including document review legal research drafting and electronic discovery support. This is a full-time opportunity. Provide paralegal services in support of ACE investigations and litigation
Gather factual material and locate new sources of information through law enforcement and other agency contacts
Read annotate and summarize transcripts case files and other records
Prepare case-summary binders obtain financial/statistical data and retrieve agency and court records
Analyze documents and draft court filings and memoranda for attorney review
Organize track and manage extensive volumes of records and electronically stored information
Review documents using e-discovery platforms such as Everlaw
Prepare summaries of testimony and depositions
Review and summarize health care billing and treatment records
Draft and manage discovery requests and analyze responses for completeness
Maintain discovery or investigative logs
Prepare legal correspondence and draft memoranda for attorney review
Provide litigation support using software tools to create trial exhibits and visuals
Assist with document review and preparation for interviews hearings and trial
Perform moderately complex legal research using Westlaw LexisNexis PACER and CLEAR
Create and manipulate Excel spreadsheets
Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office and other document management systems
Utilize ESI tools and understand eDiscovery procedures
Travel occasionally for case work training or special projects
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum three years of paralegal experience
Legal and analytical skills to support complex fraud investigations
Independent project management including tracking large-scale discovery efforts
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills and a desire to be part of a large team
Knowledge of DOJ and USAO practices related to civil enforcement and parallel proceedings (Preferred)

Associates degree or higher in related field
