Looking for a Spit Bridge Operator to manage the day-to-day operations of the Spit Bridge one of Sydneys most iconic bridges.

ConnectSydney a joint venture ofServiceStreamBoral andJohnson Controls in partnership with Transport for NSW is entrusted with the management of the Harbour Zone. Our responsibilities encompass routine maintenance strategic enhancements and specialised projects aimed at bolstering Sydneys transport infrastructure.

About the role

The Spit Bridge Operators manage the day-to-day operations of the Spit Bridge one of Sydneys most iconic bridges. As a key public-facing role the Spit Bridge Operator also represents Transport for NSW and its contractors in upholding the safety reliability and professionalism expected of the states transport infrastructure.

This position is responsible for managing the mechanical opening and closing of the Spit Bridge to accommodate both marine and vehicular traffic always ensuring minimal disruption and maximum safety. Operators monitor and respond to scheduled bridge openings communicate with maritime vessels and maintain accurate operational records.

The position operates on a rotating two-shift schedule: a Morning Shift from 07:00 to 15:00 and an Afternoon Shift from 14:00 to 22:00 providing continuous coverage and operational support across key traffic periods.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Action and complete all bridge openings per the TfNSW approved schedule.

  • Record and maintain documentation of all vessel movements.

  • Complete the daily maintenance tasks within the bridge control centre & the abutment.

  • Report all maintenance issues to Network Operations & Network Delivery Teams for action.

  • Assist 3rd party contractors to complete the scheduled maintenance tasks.

  • Own and act on the principles of the Road Safety Charter.

  • Provide leadership to ensure the highest standard of safety is always maintained for all individuals.

  • Ensure all safety processes and procedures are adhered to.

  • Conduct business to the highest standard and in line with core values: Integrity Innovation Collaboration and Excellence.

  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct vision policies and procedures.

  • Lead by example and take accountability for own actions.

  • Interact with others in a collaborative and constructive manner.

  • Demonstrate strengths in areas of team performance and dynamics client services EHS and quality.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Mechanical or trade-specific skills are desirable; however training will be provided so not essential.

  • Bridge operations or control room experience.

  • Experience within process-driven roles.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Remain composed under pressure.

  • Microsoft Office suite (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
