About Hood College
Founded in 1893 Hood College is a Liberal Arts College of about 2100 students. It is located in the center of historic Frederick Maryland a city of about 80000. The 50-acre campus consists of about 1300 undergraduate students. Position Summary
Hood College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Law & Criminal Justice at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank beginning fall 2026. Hood College offers an undergraduate major with one concentration in law and another in criminal justice with students evenly divided between the two. The Law & Criminal Justice major is administratively housed in the Department of Politics Law and Global Studies. The law concentration prepares students for the challenges of attending law school and careers in the legal profession. The criminal justice concentration provides an opportunity for service in criminal justice fields at the federal state and local levels. Both areas have rigorous academic requirements that teach subject mastery problem-solving critical thinking analytical skills writing and oral communication skills. The successful candidate will play a key role in serving as the program director and therefore must be able to move easily between the two different concentrations of law and criminal justice.

Education and/or Experience
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
A JD or PhD in Criminal Justice Political Science or a related discipline is required by the time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching advising students research and publication and service to the college academic discipline and/or community. A cover letter should address the candidates previous experience and preparedness to teach in both law and criminal justice.
Preferred Skills and Characteristics
Technology Skills
Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint) e-mail and the Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.
Language Skills
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking projections goal setting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost-effective decisions regarding the program.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with several concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in the theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
Compensation
The salary for this position ranges from $61000 to $65000 depending on circumstances including an applicants skills and qualifications certain degrees and certifications prior job experience training and other relevant factors. Additional compensation for work completed beyond the minimum contracted teaching load may be provided. Hood College has provided a compensation range representing its good faith estimate of what the College may pay for the position at the time of posting.
