Position Summary

The Manager of Quality Safety and Clinical Adoption is a key leadership role reporting to the Director of Quality Safety and Clinical Adoption. This individual leads a team dedicated to enhancing clinical processes reducing patient harm and improving outcomes. They are part of a world-leading team that innovates and rethinks healthcare quality.

The Manager of Quality Safety and Clinical Adoption is responsible for the day-to-day management planning design implementation and coordination of Patient Safety and Quality management and all of its initiatives.  Under the direction of the Director Quality Safety and Clinical Adoption this role will work with a team of Patient Safety & Quality Improvements Specialists to achieve UHNs overall goal of reducing preventable harm to zero.

The key internal stakeholders whom the Manager would work closely with include: site executives and leaders at all sites UHN Executive Management Program Medical Directors UHN Quality of Care Committee Clinical Managers Physician leaders and Patient Partners. The key external stakeholders for this role include: TASHN Hospitals Ontario Health Healthcare Excellence Canada and the other Canadian and International hospitals.

The Manager for Quality Safety and Clinical Adoption plays a pivotal role in leading quality and safety initiatives at UHN a global leader in these domains. This role demands a manager who possesses both tactical skills to oversee specialists and manage day-to-day operations as well as strategic acumen to develop plans and present them to executive audiences. The manager works closely with the Director and VP on leadership decisions.

Duties

  • Strategic and Operational Leadership: Lead the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement team overseeing daily operations resource planning and fiscal accountability. Drive system-wide quality and safety initiatives aligned with UHNs strategic goals.
  • Quality Improvement and Capacity Building: Design and implement initiatives to enhance clinical processes and reduce patient harm. Provide coaching mentoring and subject matter expertise to build organizational capacity in quality and safety.
  • Human Resources Management: Oversee all aspects of HR for a diverse team including recruitment performance management conflict resolution and professional development. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Planning and Policy Development: Develop and execute short- and long-term plans monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed. Establish operational policies and procedures to support organizational effectiveness.
  • Data Reporting and Financial Oversight: Monitor key performance indicators and quality metrics; prepare reports and presentations for leadership. Monitor departmental budgets analyze variances and support financial planning.
  • Corporate and Cross-Functional Engagement: Represent the department on internal and external committees contribute to corporate initiatives and deliver presentations on quality and safety priorities. Mentor staff on improvement methodologies and support research and innovation.

Qualifications :

  • At minimum completion of a masters degree in quality improvement & patient safety health administration or business science preferred or recognized equivalent required
  • Regulated health care professional in good standing
  • Certification in quality improvement (i.e. Lean Six Sigma) or patient safety required
  • At minimum 6-8 years practical and related experience in healthcare quality and safety management experience.
  • Experience leading large-scale quality improvement initiatives in a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent leadership communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and performance improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with people management is preferred.
