POSITION SUMMARY:
The Engineering Manager is a leadership role focused on overseeing the engineering operations within a marine manufacturing environment. The individual in this position is responsible for managing a team of engineers and related technical staff to ensure the efficient and effective design development and production of marine vessels and equipment. The role involves strategic planning continuous improvement initiatives and collaboration with cross-functional teams to achieve optimal production quality cost and timeline objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Leads the manufacturing engineering team setting objectives evaluating performance and mentoring staff.
Implements new technologies and processes to enhance production efficiency and product quality.
Works with design and product development to ensure new products are manufacturable and optimized for production.
Oversees engineering processes standards and best practices to maintain high-quality operations.
Manages the engineering budget and resource allocation to support project timelines.
Addresses complex manufacturing issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Coordinates with supply chain management to ensure supplier quality and performance.
Ensures adherence to safety environmental and quality regulations and standards.
Promotes MDI continuous improvement and productivity initiatives within the engineering team.
Reports on engineering progress and challenges to senior management.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Marine Engineering or similar discipline.
Preferred Degree: Master of Science in Engineering Management or similar discipline.
Experience: Five years of experience in manufacturing.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITY:
Extensive experience in marine manufacturing with a background in engineering management.
Demonstrated leadership skills and team motivation.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes materials quality systems and compliance.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM ERP systems and engineering technology.
Strong problem-solving organizational and project management skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimal
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regular computer work sitting walking and standing.
Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
Develops objectives and general policies and procedures for a specific program or functional area of responsibility within general scope of established operational goals and plans. Day-to-day work and decisions do not require direction or review by immediate supervisor. End results are reviewed by supervisor.
