Job Description
This is a hybrid role in Vancouver BC.
Position Summary
Imperva the application security division of Thales is seeking a talented and experienced Bot Detection SoftwareEngineer (Data focus) who wants to take the fight to the attackers.
Key Areas of Responsibility
This position is part of a team of software engineers and data scientists who are responsible for building systems to detectand mitigate automated threats the core functionality of the Advanced Bot Protection product.
We expect this team member to be able to show initiative and creatively find problems as well as solve them. Much of thework of this team is analyzing detection mechanisms in production and then figuring out how to make advances in bot
detection.
This is a position where ideas and execution are equally vital.
Basic Qualifications
4 years in software engineering games development with some professional data science experience
Significant programming and software engineering expertise. Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems
using code as well as software fundamentals.
Systems programming experience (Rust preferred C/C Zig etc.)
Extensive experience and/or education in Data Science Data Analysis Statistics Machine Learning.
Proficiency in analytical programming in Python R or Julia (Python is preferred) and in-depth knowledge of data
processing and analysis libraries such as Polars pandas or Rs tidyverse
In-depth experienced understanding of SQL and data visualization
Other experience that would be a preference include
Attacker Mindset. Interest in threat detection/identification in an arms race situation. Attackers are constantlytrying to bypass our systems. We need to patch vulnerabilities in our existing detection methods that attackers are
exploiting as well as come up with new methods and techniques.
Data curiosity. Many of the problems we face reduce to data problems. Must be proficient with analysis andprocessing of very large datasets
Determination to solve problems through technical and organizational hurdles.
Customer focus: this is both a product team as well as a research team. We need to be willing and able to workwith the codebase and provide value to our customers.
Ability to execute. What has been successful for those in this position is demonstrated ability to get things doneand work through impediments as they arise.

The reference Total Target Compensation(TTC) market range for this position inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target is between
Total Target Cash (TTC): 91737.47 - 124750.82 - 167298.57 CAD AnnualThis reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including but not limited to the employees career path history competencies skills and performance as well as the companys annual salary budget the customers program requirements and the companys internal equity. Thales may offer additional benefits and other compensation depending on circumstances not related to an applicants status protected by local state or federal law.
