About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Financial Accountant to join a General Insurance Company in Australia. This is a global underwriting leader providing best-in-class property casualty and specialty reinsurance and insurance solutions.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Financial Accountant that will be responsible for supporting the financial operations ensuring compliance with accounting standards and ideally having a background in general insurance.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support with the preparation of APRA returns
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliation
  • Monthly reconciliation between insurance systems and the general ledger
  • Documenting and building/enhancing procedures
  • Journal entries leading up to month/quarter/year end close
  • Assisting with the preparation of the quarterly CFO report
  • Supporting the Finance Operations team with the preparation and lodgement of the various indirect taxes and duties (GST Stamp Duty etc)
  • Supporting the Finance Operations team with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Completing Industry Surveys (ABS)
  • Annual external audit work; answering audit queries investigation assisting with sample testing
  • Quarterly reconciliation between Local results and US GAAP
  • Support in preparing the annual tax returns and Fringe Benefits Tax Return
  • Ad Hoc tasks

Qualifications Knowledge Skills & Competencies

  • CPA or CA qualified
  • Minimum 5 years of financial accounting experience preferably within the General Insurance industry
  • Experience using general ledger systems (Oracle PeopleSoft etc)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite especially Excel
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
