Job Summary
Summary
The Infection Preventionist for Brigham and Womens (BWH) and Brigham and Womens Faulkner (BWFH) Hospitals is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Infection Prevention functions of BWH and BWHF two of the site teams of MGB Infection Control. The Infection Preventionist reporting to the Sr. Manager of Infection Control must have knowledge and experience in infection prevention and control principles and practice the ability to make evidence-based decisions excellent problem-solving skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. MGB is in an active change management environment and the Infection Preventionist will need to demonstrate flexibility and open mindedness as the contours of this position will actively evolve over time.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision and in collaboration with the BWH and BWFH Sr. Manager of Infection Control the Infection Preventionist
1. Implement at the site-level system infection prevention and control goals plans policies and standards consistent with the clinical administrative regulatory/legal requirements and objectives of the organization.
2. Implement site NHSN and non-NHSN surveillance remediation and reporting of infections including outbreak detection and response.
3. Conduct regular Environment of Care rounds and report findings to appropriate local and system leadership.
4. Support continuous improvement of infection prevention and control practices.
5. Function as a site liaison to regulatory agencies and public health authorities.
6. Evaluate the site-specific infection control program by identifying strategies that address the risk of infection transmission.
7. Oversee and conduct site-specific educational efforts related to infection prevention and control.
8. Implement in collaboration with MGB Occupational Health Services policies and procedures to assess mitigate and respond to occupational infection risk.
9. Collaborate with other site-specific stakeholders (e.g. Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Facilities Real Estate etc) as appropriate.
10. Act as NHSN site administrator when assigned by BWH and BWFH Sr. Manager of Infection Control.
11. Participate in IPCC Working Groups and other activities as assigned.
12. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
1. Bachelors degree required. Masters degree in Infection Control Public Health Epidemiology or Statistics preferred; Masters in Healthcare Management or another relevant field is acceptable.
2. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred upon hire; if not CIC at hire must be prepared to sit for CIC within 2 years of hire.
3. Current Massachusetts licensure as a registered nurse preferred but not required.
4. Minimum 3 years of related work experience required.
5. Knowledge and experience in a. regulatory and other requirements related to Infection Prevention and Control b. implementation of CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance and other surveillance for healthcare associated infections c. application of commonly used performance metrics including Vizient Leapfrog CMS others
Special Requirements
1. Must be available to work in the case of a facility-declared emergency.
2. Must be available to assist during regulatory agency reviews.
3. Must be available to work on-site.
