GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
The forklift operator determines what lumber is required for loading prepares rail car/truck loading plans locates and then hauls the correct units for loading. The operator then positions the lumber on the rail car/truck in accordance with the loading regulations. They also assist when necessary tie down and banding needed for the rail cars.
Load correct lumber per load list in a safe and productive manner so the truck or car will meet the legal weight restrictions. Tag or stencil loads correctly for shipments. Locate and stage lumber to be shipped. Help sort and stack lumber in the yard to better identify and separate products and sizes. Access computer to generate required paperwork for shipping and inventory information.
The person who fills this position needs minimal supervision and will take the initiation to assist other employees when necessary. Be willing to work overtime when needed. Perform preventative maintenance and maintain appropriate checklist.
