Job Summary
The MGB Program Coordinator for Youth Programs will support the design and delivery of the academic year and summer programming for high school students with a focus on career readiness college exploration and social-emotional development. The coordinator will facilitate weekly programming for two high school cohorts and support summer employment experiences playing a key role in cultivating students exposure to healthcare careers and post-secondary pathways.
The Program Coordinator will develop and implement group workshops and one-on-one student sessions support family engagement and maintain relationships with schools colleges and community partners. This position also contributes to program planning implementation and continuous improvement efforts. The role requires strong interpersonal organizational and facilitation skills as well as a deep commitment to youth development and educational equity.
This position reports to the Senior Program Manager Summer and Alumni Program and collaborates closely with other staff and partners to ensure high-quality experience for all participants in MGBs Youth Programs.
Education
- Bachelors degree in psychology counseling social work education or related field required
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years prior experience working in youth development programs required
- Extensive experience working in diverse communities
Responsabilities:
- Refine practices and procedures that will strategically strengthen and broaden program impact for the MGH Youth Scholars.
- Demonstrate superior project management networking and relationship-building skills.
- Work in collaboration with program coordinators on creating college access and readiness opportunities for all cohorts.
- Build and expand programming that exposes students to colleges and universities throughout Massachusetts (encouraged to include areas beyond Boston).
- Develop opportunities and avenues that allow students and parents to feel included in the college search process.
- Introduce students to a broad range of career options connected to STEM and healthcare.
- Build and expand programming to expose students to workforce opportunities beyond high school.
- Build students leadership skills and confidence.
- Monitor the academic progress of all students and ensure that those in need receive appropriate support.
- Coordinate weekly programming for individual cohorts and monthly events for all cohorts during the academic year.
- Recruit supervisors/mentors and students for participation in the MGB Year-Round and Summer Jobs Programs.
- Help coordinate and oversee student and mentor involvement in Summer Jobs and MGB staff engagement to ensure positive experiences.
- Assist with communication between mentors students and MGB staff for Summer Jobs.
- Work in collaboration with MGB Youth Program partnering high schools and the Boston Private Industry Council to ensure effective student selection and program retention.
- Other duties as required to fulfill the responsibilities of the role and ensure program success. Evening and weekend work may be required.
Skills/Abilities
- 4-6 years experience with progressive responsibility in youth development college access (Upward Bound experience ideal)
- Experience working with city youth
- A track record of successfully accomplishing multiple goals team building and communication skills; and a genuine enthusiasm for students
- Goal-driven approach to work with a demonstrated ability to develop a positive rapport with leaders and decision-makers from diverse sectors.
- Works well within a large complex system with multiple internal stakeholders
- Proven as a team player
- Superior verbal and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and work collaboratively to inspire motivate and focus students parents colleagues and partners
