Provide critical support for engineering prototype builds from sourcing and tracking parts to assisting with pre-production trial runs. Coordinate with internal and external suppliers to acquire required components. As a Model Builds Support team member youll engage in activities such as Kaizen (including 3P shingi events AWOs) parts purchasing and tracking as well as design and fabrication of parts and fixtures using hand tools machine shop and moonshine shop equipment.Collaborate with engineering teams to schedule and oversee model-build activities
Identify evaluate and engage suppliers for quality prototype parts
Receive label inventory and kit parts for engineering builds
Manage logistics of completed units including lab transfers and customer shipments
Provide engineers with feedback on part design layout manufacturability and functionality
Work effectively across global teams (LaFayette Louisville Tech-M)
Own tasks independently and complete them with minimal supervision
Partner with Engineering & Manufacturing to ensure builds stay on schedule
Lead or assist with LEAN initiatives: line/cell layout balancing and continuous improvement
Maintain a clean safe organized workspace compliant with 6S standards
Automate inventory tracking for parts and build units
Review Bills of Material (BOMs) for accuracy
Prepare and ship units for CITL RLT shipment tests and evaluation labs
Participate hands-on in prototype builds and functional testing
Support pre-pilot pilot and initial production build efforts
Apply basic knowledge of assembly wiring electrical circuits schematics and Range Products
Maintain and service in-house shop equipment
Actively contribute to all team activities and improvement efforts
Desired Additional Skills
Operate machinery and fabricate prototype parts and assemblies using engineering drawings/models
Design and build jigs fixtures and assembly aids for prototyping
Rework and modify parts or fixtures based on redlined designs
Draft prototype parts and clarify specifications with engineers
Collaborate with AME or manufacturing teams on fixture design and line balancing for NPI (New Product Introduction)
Provide formal feedback on assembly ergonomics quality and fit to the engineering team
Education & Experience
Required: High school diploma or GED
Preferred: 2-year trade school vocational training apprenticeship or comparable hands-on experience
Required: Minimum 1 year of LEAN manufacturing experience with strong understanding of end-to-end production processes
Experience leading multiple LEAN projects is a strong plus
Skills & Physical Requirements
Ability to stand walk push pull reach overhead and bend regularly
Capable of lifting/moving: 2050lb occasionally 1025lb frequently and up to 10lb continuously
Ability to read and interpret blueprints sketches and technical drawings
Proficient with Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint and other internal e-systems
Track record of implementing LEAN projects in a manufacturing environment
Demonstrated leadership proactive mindset and urgency in issue resolution
Excellent written and verbal communication
Strong organizational skills with reliable follow-through to meet deadlines
Tools & Equipment
Familiarity with shop and moonshine shop equipment including grinders lathes saws drill presses etc.
Comfortable using Windows-based systems (Excel Word Outlook)
Forklift and tugger operation license (required or able to obtain)
