YL Staff Associate I
Summary: Through both formal training and direct field ministry experience learn how to effectively carry out and manage Young Life ministry.
Ministry Functions:Spiritual Development Following Jesus includes prayer and spiritual disciplines fellowship growth and health and church relationships.
Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude retreat reflection prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding Gods Word.Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines in the context of active participation in a church community.Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.Leadership Development Equipping leaders committee and staff includes key volunteer care recruiting team building and training supervision and vision casting.
Meet with your volunteer leaders and area leadership on a regular basis.Learn to recruit and train new leaders to build a leadership team that reflects the community. Model excellence in contact work club Campaigners and camping to other leaders.Assist in training leaders team leaders and committee how to work effectively in teams and develop a yearly ministry strategy.Resource Development Fueling the ministry includes events major donor care public relations (branding) and TDS team.
Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.Communicate ministry updates and progress to personal donor partners.Observe and learn to network and develop strategic relationships with key adults in the community including: principals pastors parents potential committee members as assigned by the area director.Learn to plan and execute area fundraising events under the direction of an area supervisor and committee.Direct Ministry Proclaiming and modeling includes contact work club Campaigners and camp.
Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.Lead a team to plan and conduct a new or existing Young Life club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry with excellence.Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for a ministry.Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life camp each year.Ministry Support Taking care of business includes accounting administration communication (internal) data management and strategic plan.
Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism concerning office hours dress conduct and time management.Manage finances with stewardship accountability and transparency using the mission-wide applications.Maintain accurate information on kids leaders and donors for area records.Provide clear prompt appropriate and professional communication to everyone involved in ministry. Set yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to reach every kid; review them on a regular basis.Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts experience and area needs.Training:Core Training Phase One (New Staff Training Leadership I Leadership II Apologetics and one Winter Training course are to be completed in the first two years.Training may be supervised by a regional director regional trainer or area to develop personal spiritual maturity and enhance personal character.May include regional training meetings and ministry skills training assigned by the area director.Education:College degree preferred.Qualifications Required for the Job:Experience in direct ministry.
Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Work Conditions:Includes the extremes of a camp including: heat/cold dirt long hours and the physical demands of hiking horseback riding boating and more. Young Life Capernaum which started in 1986 is an outreach and discipleship ministry of Young Life to teens and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Capernaum is an international ecumenical Christian organization that gives young people (high school to age 22) with intellectual and developmental disabilities the chance to experience fun and adventure to develop fulfilling friendships and to challenge their limits while building self-esteem through club camp and other exciting adventures.
Responsibilities:

- Ensure that all Young Life ministry in the area is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer that takes place out of the overflow of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Leadership Development Equipping leaders committee and staff includes key volunteer care recruiting team building and training supervision and vision casting.
- Recruit and train volunteer leaders adult helpers and high school buddies alongside the traditional area director in the local area.
- Direct an effective outreach ministry of Capernaum in an area or region. The responsibilities of the Capernaum coordinator include the ability to function at various levels and with diverse groups of people.
- Supervise and evaluate volunteer leaders in their leadership development in their personal spiritual formation and in their ministry with Capernaum kids.
- Recruit and train leaders to nurture Capernaum kids through leading Campaigners meetings.
- Recruit and train leaders to attend summer camp and to work with Young Lifes regulations and property constraints.
- Train leaders in healthy communication with parents/guardians around care of kids with disabilities.
- Lead a team to plan and implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for the ministry.
Resource Development Fueling the ministry includes events major donor care public relations (branding) and TDS team.
- Work with the area or regional director to guarantee all expenses are within the budget.
- Impart vision for the Capernaum ministry to potential donors.
- Learn and implement Taking Donors Seriously (TDS) procedures.
- Raise personal and ministry funds as directed.
- Ensure that all Young Life financial policies and procedures are implemented.
- The Capernaum coordinator will assist the area director in working alongside the traditional Young Life committee. He or she may be responsible to recruit a sub-committee that focuses on Capernaum.
- Communicate the needs and successes of the local Capernaum ministry to the area committee.
- Ensure the administration requirements from all levels of Capernaum supervision are handled with excellence and in a timely manner.
- Complete the required paperwork for new volunteers drivers and mentors and submit the proper forms to the Service Center.
Direct Ministry Proclaiming and modeling includes contact work club Campaigners and camp.
- Be active in all three levels of contact work.
- Lead a team to plan and implement Capernaum Young Life outreach meetings with excellence.
- Train leaders to plan and implement Campaigners meetings with excellence.
- Work with surrounding traditional Young Life clubs toward inclusion of Capernaum friends specific to events and summer and weekend camp opportunities as appropriate. Speak to civic and church groups to promote and publicize the ministry and needs of Capernaum.
- In order to gain access to kids with disabilities develop relationships with school administration parents and school aides.
- Build relationships with parents of Capernaum kids when appropriate.

- Accept both short- and long-term assignments of projects. The area director regional director and mission director of Capernaum will determine what missionwide training events and classes will be necessary for the local Capernaum coordinator to attend. The goal is that every local Capernaum coordinator will receive the same missionwide training as any other staff in this range.
- Participation in any required TDS training as assigned.
- Supervisors may require additional training or experiences.
- Will work with the local area director and regional director to determine attendance at regional training times.

Education
- College degree preferred.
