Project Overview:
Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States by far enough to power 1 million electric vehicles per the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility. We are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and work began in 2023 and design and procurement of long-lead equipment is project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca Nevada and 3 hours northeast of with sustainability and the environment in mind the facility will use its excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Once the second phase of the project is complete Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of is proud to play a critical role in the U.S. transition to cleaner energy and offers the following opportunity on the Thacker Pass Project.
Job Summary:
In this role you will provide technical oversight of the projects ES&H compliance activities through inspection of project field execution activities. You will assist project and construction management in implementing and complying with project safety requirements and in addressing ES&H issues as they arise during project execution. You will work directly with other project-level functions (e.g. engineering construction subcontracts procurement project controls document controls) to assist them in addressing the applicable ES&H requirements in their work activities and conduct daily site surveillance to verify adequate use of PPE routine equipment inspections project ES&H initiatives.
Major Responsibilities:
Provides assistance in a wide variety of Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) disciplines to facilitate implementation of Bechtels ES&H program and ES&H Management System to include aiding compliance with Bechtels ES&H standards applicable regulatory requirements and contractual commitments
Assists in the development implementation and maintenance of programs systems and procedures necessary for the safety and health of employees and protection of the environment and communities
Maintains ES&H databases inclusive of incident events audit/assessment findings and corrective actions
Performs statistical analysis of ES&H data to help identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement
Helps identify and coordinate any unique software systems and electronic innovation used by ES&H personnel
Leads teams in conducting risk assessment studies mitigation planning and monitoring in response to ES&H issues
Prepares communications writes reports and prepares documents for program execution and records retention
Assists with incident notifications leads investigations and prepares incident investigation reports
Recommends and implements improvements in processes procedures and work activities to minimize hazard potential
Participates in and supports employee training emergency preparedness and quality assurance programs
Supports ES&H recognition programs
Researches issues and provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice
Provides support to ES&H field and office personnel inclusive of all ES&H disciplines

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a bachelors or masters degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental safety health or science-related discipline and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of OSHA 1926 and 1910 required
Understanding of Bechtels ESH Core Processes
Can perform root cause analysis as needed for incident investigations
Conducts Project Contractor Orientation
Leads and implements Project ESH Audits monitoring completion of specified corrective actions
Coaches Contractor Project and Safety Team on the Bechtel Processes and expectations
Knowledge of safety programs/engineering systems principles and methodologies.
Knowledge of national safety laws/regulations and regulatory agencies regulatory requirements and responsibilities industry standards/current practices for ES&H and best management practices for minimizing potential ES&H risks during project execution.
Knowledge of hazardous materials and physical risks and the mechanisms to mitigate them.
Experience in ES&H assessments/inspection during construction..
Experience in managing and/or providing technical oversight of ES&H subcontractors or consultants.
