We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Multidisciplinary Optimization Engineer to join our advanced engineering team in Detroit MI. This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong foundation in automotive systems and a proven track record of applying optimization techniques across disciplines including structural thermal fluid and control systems. The ideal candidate will lead design trade studies develop parametric models and use simulation-driven optimization to improve vehicle performance efficiency and reliability.
Lead multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) projects across vehicle systems including chassis powertrain aerodynamics and thermal systems.
Integrate finite element analysis (FEA) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and system-level simulation models into optimization workflows.
Develop and execute design trade studies using tools such as modeFRONTIER HEEDS Isight or equivalent MDO platforms.
Collaborate cross-functionally with design simulation manufacturing and controls teams to define system constraints and performance objectives.
Apply DOE sensitivity analysis surrogate modeling and machine learning techniques to guide design decisions.
Drive implementation of optimization algorithms for product development cycles including NVH crash thermal and fuel economy targets.
Automate simulation workflows and data management using scripting languages (Python MATLAB etc.).
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers on MDO best practices.
Bachelor s or Master s degree in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering Automotive Engineering or a related field.
8 years of experience in the automotive industry with a focus on simulation optimization and system-level design.
Hands-on experience with optimization platforms such as modeFRONTIER HEEDS Isight OptiStruct or equivalent.
Strong proficiency in FEA/CFD tools (e.g. ANSYS Abaqus Fluent STAR-CCM).
Proficient in scripting/programming for process automation (Python MATLAB VBA).
Solid understanding of vehicle development processes and engineering standards.
Strong communication skills and ability to present findings to stakeholders at all levels.
Experience with electrified vehicle architectures (BEV/HEV/PHEV).
Familiarity with AI/ML-assisted optimization methods.
Knowledge of PLM tools and product lifecycle in OEM environments.
Experience working in Agile or model-based systems engineering (MBSE) frameworks.
