The opportunity
Southern New Hampshire University is seeking individuals to serve as a Penmen First Scholars Program Student Catalyst. Student Catalysts will assist in creating and implementing engaging programming and events for first-generation college students and supporting faculty/staff. In addition to peer-to-peer support Student Catalysts will foster connections and advocate for the needs of first-generation students. Student Catalysts will also create content development for social media platforms monthly newsletters and will aid the Penmen First Scholars Program in a series of marketing activities that range from creating bulletin boards to representing the office at tabling events.
Duties and Responsibilities are unique for each role but include:
Assist in the creation and implementation of passive programming and events for first-generation college students (face-to-face and virtual) which will focus on:
Encouraging connection with other first gen students and faculty/staff.
Fostering a supportive and inclusive environment to actively engage.
Increasing awareness and advocating for the unique needs and experiences of first-generation students.
Assist in providing content for social media channels and departmental communications (Penmen First Scholars Program newsletter monthly email etc.)
Provide mentorship and support to Penmen First Scholars through one-on-one mentoring sessions and group mentoring opportunities to help them navigate academic and social challenges.
Create flyers and other promotional materials for events/programs
Represent the office at outreach events including new-student orientation Admissions events presentations and training sessions
Assist in all aspects of customer service including answering phones greeting guests responding to the Penmen First Scholars Program email
Collect and analyze data on student participation satisfaction and outcomes to inform program improvements and enhancements.
Assist in peer leading within First-Gen learning communities
Complete other tasks as assigned by department leadership (this may include shopping for events research budget assistance serving as a liaison general office clean-up and a wide variety of administrative tasks)
Minimum Qualifications:
Current enrollment in an Undergraduate program at SNHU (at least a sophomore)
On-Campus student
Students with work-study may be prioritized
Passion for working with first-generation students
Working knowledge in concepts related to first-generation students and on-campus student resources that are available to those students
Must be willing to work collaboratively with others and be flexible regarding assigned tasks
Knowledge of basic computer/technology skills (word excel or equivalent google docs Canva video/digital imaging etc.)
Knowledge of basic social media skills (Instagram TikTok etc.)
Ability to maintain privacy
An interest in advancing the mission of the Penmen First Scholars Program

Compensation
The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00.
