Project Name: Regional Cross Connection Control Project (RCCCP)
The RCCCP is a regulatory critical $18.6M initiative between the Water Quality Division (WQD) and Water Supply & Treatment Division to upgrade critical appurtenances in the Regional Water System such as air vacuum valves (AVVs) air release valves (ARVs) and blowoff valves (BOs) to meet the latest standards for public health protection. The project is scheduled for construction completion by April 2027. The Associate Engineer will be crucial in supporting project management tasks for RCCCP including conducting field inspections coordinating corrective actions and maintaining project documentation.
Position Summary
Under general direction the Associate Engineer will work with the Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Workgroup within the Capital Programs Section of the Water Quality Division (WQD). The Capital Programs Section supports CIP Water Quality programs Water Quality applications and customer communications. The CIP Workgroup serves as the WQD liaison for CIP projects reviews CIP technical documents conducts site inspections performs project management manages professional services contracts and leads the Regional Cross Connection Control Project (RCCCP).
Additionally the Associate Engineer will support development of a new project (estimated $26.3M) focused on the relocation of 43 unforeseen appurtenances under roadways. This work will involve obtaining permits from various jurisdictions trenching in public roadways and acquiring permanent easements for adjacent properties. The associate engineer will also assist with customer communications which may include analyzing water quality data providing operational response recommendation reviewing upcoming regulatory changes and updating Water Quality fact sheets.
The role requires strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams clear and effective communication and a thorough understanding of water quality issues regulatory changes industry trends and relevant regulations.

Hours: Full-time Monday - Friday
Nature of Work: primarily office-based but may require travel to and work at remote sites including watersheds surface water lakes pump stations tanks reservoirs water treatment plants groundwater wells and construction sites; climbing ladders; entering water reservoirs; carrying and employing field analytical and testing equipment; working in confined spaces; working in inclement weather; working around hazardous materials; Requires a CA Drivers License.

Qualifications :
These minimum qualifications establish the education training experience special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. 1. Three (3) years of verifiable professional engineering experience of which two (2) years of professional experience equivalent to the City & County of San Francisco Class 5203 Assistant Civil Engineer or higher;
AND
2. Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in Civil Mechanical Chemical or Environmental Engineering. (Please indicate your PE license number and expiration dates in Education Section)

3. Possession of a valid drivers license.
