Job Description

The Bensalem School District is hiring Intervention Assistants to work with our students. This position works with Teacher intervention Specialists to provide applicable intervention supports to the students in math reading or other applicable areas.

The position is part time for the 10-month school year. (20-24 hours/Week)

POSITION TITLE: Intervention Assistant (Reading Assistant)

REPORTS TO:

The Intervention Assistant reports to the Building Principal and works along with and is guided by the Teacher Intervention Specialist to provide applicable intervention supports to the students.

POSITION GOAL:

To assist the Intervention Specialist t in maintaining the most effective level of instruction possible and providing intervention supports to students in math reading or other applicable subject areas.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each

essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Possess appropriate level of education and experience to perform the

essential duties relative to the position.

Ability to comprehend analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures governmental regulations safety manuals etc. and to generate routine reports and correspondence pertinent to the essential job duties.

Ability to communicate and to demonstrate interpersonal skills effectively in dealing with students staff parents community members and educational agencies as related to performance of the duties of the position.

Ability to perform mathematical operations and to apply mechanical skills and technical skills to accomplish the essential duties of the position.

Ability to interpret and to carry out instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

Ability to perform routine tasks cooperatively and to adjust to interruptions variables or changes in standardized situations.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Eighteen (18) college credits in education and field experience with school age children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Administers such achievement and diagnostic tests as the Intervention Specialist recommends for students.

  1. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning in applicable subject area.

  1. Assists the Intervention Specialist in the completion and maintenance of forms records and individual student files.

  1. Supervises testing and makeup work as assigned by the teacher.

  1. Performs other related duties as may be assigned or necessary for an efficient operation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing this job the employee may be required to sit stand walk talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; to stoop kneel crouch or crawl. .

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is a school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
