Starting Wage:Hourly Intern $21.14/hr with Bachelors; $23.29/hr with Masters

Salary Schedule/Lane:Hourly #20 Lane E/F

JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision of a certified school counselor a counselor internship provides support to students in the instructional process with specific responsibility for providing course curriculum support information and recommendations to students and parents. Additionally they assist in the development of goals and plans for growth achievement and well-being. School counseling interns assist school counselors in implementing a comprehensive school counseling program based on district goals and objectives. They assist in the development implementation and maintenance of a schools counseling program to meet the individual and diverse needs of all students through individual planning guidance curriculum and responsive services.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Enrolled in an accredited masters level school counseling program.
  2. Professional communication skills including but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communications skills; confident articulate and professional speaking abilities; and empathetic listening and persuasive speaking skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual - Spanish speaker

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinates and collaborates with teachers and other personnel resource specialists and/or community (e.g. Courts child protective services etc.) for the purpose of providing/receiving requested information and/or making recommendations.
  2. Counsels students parents and guardians to enhance well-being and student success in school.
  3. Develops a variety of programs for providing information to assist students in difficult situations and successful school transitions.
  4. Monitors students progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate action for increasing student success.
  5. Participates in meetings workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  6. Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g. quantity reports student activities correspondence audits etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  7. Presents information (e.g. budget overviews accounting processes distribution formulas etc.) for the purpose of communicating information gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
  8. Schedules student classes for the purpose of securing appropriate placement and meeting school district and/or State requirements.
  9. Performs essential duties and responsibilities efficiently accurately and safely with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a threat of harm to self or others.
  10. Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employers sole discretion.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned or required to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Risks found in the typical work environment which is adequately lighted heated and ventilated e.g. safe use of office equipment avoiding trips and falls observing fire regulations.
  2. Typically the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work: however there may be some walking standing bending carrying light items etc
