Job Description

Grade 125- Placement Range: $75246.00 to $84703.00

When it comes to meeting the needs of our students nutrition is paramount. The Child Nutrition Coordinator ensures those needs are met through strategic program development maintaining an effective professional development program for department staff and the oversight of the free- and reduced-price meals application process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct supervise and monitor cafeterias to ensure that all departments local state and federal policies and procedures are maintained
  • Assist the Director in the development implementation and evaluation strategic and continuous improvement plans for department operations in accordance with department mission and vision
  • Develop staff training program for Professional Standards to ensure a highly trained and competent food service team
  • Assist with the overall operation of the program including assisting sites with supervision and evaluation of staff
  • Oversee the department Account Specialist and ensure financial accountability by coordination of the Free and Reduced-Price Meals application process including submission and verification
  • Administer the DES direct certification of school meal benefits
  • Researches analyzes evaluates and reports on data pertaining to projects conditions or proposals under study
  • Administers alternative feeding programs such as the At-Risk Afterschool Program and the Summer Food Service Program
  • Coordinate purchasing and maintenance of food service equipment in accordance with the Uniform Service for Financial Reporting and Arizona Administrative Code for School District Procurement
  • In the absence of the Director of Child Nutrition assume general responsibility for the operations of the department
  • Substitute in school kitchens as needed and assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors Degree in Nutrition Business or related field from accredited college or university or a combination of experience and technical training that is comparable to a degree or certification program requirements.

3 years of food service experience

ServSafe Certification

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

3 years of administrative/supervisory experience

National School Lunch and Breakfast Program experience

Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

SNS Credential

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • Federal Child Nutrition Program (CNP) regulations including federal procurement regulations the Free and Reduced-Price Meals application process and DES direct certification
  • USDA nutrition standards for federal meal programs
  • School nutrition and food service management software applications

Skilled in:

  • Communication and dissemination of information
  • Record-keeping and analysis
  • Presenting information and responding to questions from cafeteria staff district administrators and the public

Ability to:

  • Work efficiently with minimum supervision
  • Exhibit excellent judgment regarding food and employee safety
  • Promote harmonious working relationships with staff and outside business representatives
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal relationship skills

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud and can vary in temperature. The nature of this position is fast-paced and may occasionally be thought of as stressful. Through interaction with the public and other district employees the employee may encounter different scents.
