Job Description

Job Title:Sociology - CFS Professional Faculty may be filled with a visitor

Position Start Date:August 1 2026

Required Degree:This position requires a masters degree in Sociology or a closely related field; a PhD is preferred.

The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience:The Department of Sociology in the College of Family Home and Social Sciences at Brigham Young University is looking to fill one full-time Continuing Faculty Status-track(BYU equivalent of tenure-track)Professional appointment beginning in the Fall semester of 2026. We invite individuals of all ranks and areas of specializationto apply. Qualifications include a strong interest in undergraduate teaching and a masters degree in Sociology or a closely related field although a PhD is preferred. We welcome applications from practitioners with substantial industry experience. A visiting faculty appointment may be considered.

Duties/Expectations:Successful candidates will show a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring including the ability to teach upper- and lower-level undergraduate and graduate classes. They will be prepared to engage in citizenship responsibilities in the department college and university and will have an opportunity to engage in professional projects that bring value to students and faculty. The teaching load is 10 courses per year which typically includes 4 courses in fall semester 4 courses in winter semester and 2 courses in either spring or summer terms.

If available (3) evidence of teaching effectiveness should also be included. Research interests and research samples are not required since this is a teaching position but if you would like to include them please do so. Applicants should also submit a(4) 1-to-2-pagestatement explaining their experiences with and commitment to promoting belonging and inclusion in teaching mentoring and professional service.
