Alberta Health Services (AHS) Edmonton Zone invites applications for the role of Medical Lead Stroke Program Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH).

This 0.20 FTE position governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules reports to the Zone Clinical Section Chief (ZCSC) Neurology and Facility Medical Director (FMD) - RAH. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that standards of care are being met in the department and that support for research and teaching is available.


Specific job duties include but not limited to:

  • Stroke Program Coordination: Ensure coordination and integration of acute stroke stroke inpatient and Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)/stroke prevention neurologic care education and research within the clinical area at the RAH in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Strategic and Policy Advice: Provide advice and consultation on strategic and medical policy matters relating to the respective clinical area. This will include:
    • Supporting the development of operational plans;
    • Supporting the development of the RAH and Zone service plan;
    • Providing advice on medical/clinical matters; and
    • Recommending policies and guidelines relating to medical/clinical matters consistent with Medical Staff By-laws rules and regulations.
  • Dispute Resolution: Mediate disputes within and across clinical areas programs sectors and disciplines.
  • Medical Legal Issues: Identify potential liability issues and legal problems within the service/program; and provide advice to the Edmonton Zone Medical Director Zone Clinical Department Head Clinical Neurosciences and Neurology Zone Leads Edmonton Zone Stroke Lead Facility Medical Director and legal counsel as required for specific cases/files.

The position has an expected start date of approximately October 1 2025 and an expected term of 3 years.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication conflict resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.

The successful candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills have demonstrated supervisory experience and be an excellent clinician with the respect of their peers. The successful candidate also will be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Neurosciences.

Candidates must be Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) certified be eligible to work in Canada and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
