PURPOSE: To represent and assist the International Union in field research; coordinate campaign research utilizing information from and about workers employers economic / financial research on target or industry; ability to act in a leadership role with other staff (International and Local); ability to identify other campaign issues and research them. The Senior Field Researcher will be expected to develop a deep understanding of industries and companies as assigned including financial analysis and corporate governance the regulatory regimes and overall industry trends. The Senior Field Researcher will work closely with local research staff SEIU members and not-yet-union workers capital stewards investors and to understand working conditions and corporate strategy develop campaign strategy and execute campaign tactics.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Senior Field Researcher plays an integral role in planning implementation and evaluation of campaigns and participates in team leadership. The Senior Field Researcher performs a wide range of duties related to the research area of capital stewardship as assigned by the International Union and these may include some or all of the duties and responsibilities included within the field researcher job description. These job areas may include but are not limited to the following: Organizing bargaining communications public policy action community support resource management record keeping employer research economic research and other areas. In addition the Senior Field Researcher will routinely be assigned one or more of the following types of responsibilities:
Working Conditions: The Senior Field Researcher must be available for regular travel over a large geographic area--and the position often requires temporary assignments away from home as well as long and irregular hours. Most research work is performed in an office setting but Senior Field Researchers also collect information from workers investors alies and other sources in a variety of settings.
Contacts: Under the supervision of department leadership the Senior Field Researcher works collaboratively with research colleagues campaign coordinators and directors other support functions including communications legal and member strength as well as local union staff and organizing department staff as assigned.
Direction and Decision Making: The Senior Field Researcher receives direction from the Assistant Director of Research or the Research Coordinator assigned to the campaign.
Qualifications Education and Experience: The Senior Field Researcher position requires a high level of judgement leadership and commitment to the goals of SEIU and its leaders. The Senior Field Researcher must be able to work independently with elected leaders in complex political and local union situations.
Masters Degree in economics business administration political science labor relations public administration or other related areas and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant research experience including experience leading research work in a campaign setting and evaluating the work of others.
Equivalency: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelors Degree in economics business labor relations public administration or other related areas and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant research experience. Or a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge skills and abilities:
PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 12 MONTHS
Ability to learn and utilize capital markets platforms that provide publicly and privately held company financial information.
