POSITION OVERVIEW
The Inclusive Investments at BDC involves initiatives designed to support and grow the number of underserved companies in Canada. The new Black Entrepreneurs and Indigenous Funds as well as the Thrive platform for women will invest alongside ecosystem partners and others into companies that are growing sustainable businesses creating jobs and actively contributing to the growth of the Canadian economy.
In this role the incumbent oversees the strategies and portfolio performances of the Funds with 4 teams of professionals across Canada targeted local market opportunity and market approach (internal/external). She/he must ensure that the teams have the tools and resources to execute the various funds under management.
The incumbent has a passion for supporting the growth of companies is innovative and a strong leader. Having an entrepreneurial background the successful candidate is a natural collaborator and dedicated to creating a variety of sustainable investment products. With an understanding of or expertise in investments finance or capital markets the Senior Vice President will oversee the design of investment vehicles that generate returns while bringing equity capital to these under-represented segments of the market. The Senior Vice president will represent BDC in the ecosystem and be responsible for leading the execution of the mandate working with the Managing Directors/Partner of the Funds key partners and stakeholders in the marketplace.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Oversee overall leadership of the Funds and programs roadmap forecasting planning and budgeting;
Lead partnership identification and discussion with the Managing Directors/Partners through to signed agreements pursuant to the delivery of products in market;
Identify and develop new products in consultation with the Managing Directors/Partners external partners and the market;
Relationship management of major partners: key stakeholders and partners angel investors accelerators and other ecosystem partners particularly at the very early stages;
Actively participate in public relations including speaking engagements panel participation press interviews writing articles for print and online publication and attending conferences as an expert and thought leader;
Linkages with BDC key partners for expansion opportunities;
Foster a high performing team environment built on trust collaboration and high aspirations;
Support the Managing Directors/Partners in the team management cycle identifying internal talent hiring externally and developing high-quality team members.

Education
Undergraduate degree.
MBA or other graduate degree beneficial but not necessary
Experience
Prior background as an entrepreneur or investor or both; proven ability to be an individual achiever and team player in fast-paced high-pressure environments; and/or
Proven C-level executive leading the development from start up to positive cash flow revenues or exit of a successful technology business competing in global markets;
Strong ecosystem experience working with accelerators incubators to deliver programs to market in an agile environment;
Served as a board director and management advisor with public and private early stage emerging technology companies.

Knowledge of industry dynamics for both tech and non-tech firms; awareness of long-term market trends emerging opportunities; able to characterize and quantify sector- and segment-specific industry risk factors.
Possesses a current network within the marketplace that can be leveraged;

Has a sound understanding of the product development lifecycle development methodologies growth and pricing strategies.
Sound business acumen; displays insight with regards to the meaning of financial data as it relates to the operations of a company as it moves along its lifecycle.
Superior communication (written and verbal) skills and the ability to influence to achieve results; can sell ideas to build consensus with partners in the fund and with portfolio companies and investee prospects; attentive to both detail and nuances in the information exchange with a variety of audiences; encourages constructive debates that strive for the best outcome.
