Job Description
- Part Time Permanent Contract
- 48 hours per fortnight
Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) is the major health provider in the Central Hume region with an extensive range of acute sub-acute aged care and community services.
NHW has recently reviewed the structure and deliverables of our Aboriginal Health service in line with funding guidelines and national standards for providing culturally safe health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. To ensure we are providing culturally appropriate care we are seeking a male Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) to support Mens Business in our health service.
The recruitment of a male ALO is conducted as a Special Measure under Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act for the purpose of promoting substantive equality.
The ALO will workwith the Aboriginal Health Team to improve the outcomes of patients who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander particularly male patients. The ALO will do this by:
- Providing one on one engagement and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients;
- Liaising with Community to support individual health self-determination;
- Supporting Community members to link with hospital community health and primary care services; and
- Supporting Northeast Health Wangarattas planning for cultural safety.
