What We Are Looking For

The Associate Chaplain & Director of Pastoral Care supports Baylor University by helping to create a vibrant faith formative campus environment that prepares and inspires students toward the pursuit of a life of purpose meaning leadership and service. This position is responsible for creating and sustaining a vibrant caring and supportive environment by providing visionary leadership in pastoral care to undergraduate and graduate students faculty and staff fostering a sense of wholeness belonging and community.The Associate Chaplain will support the Dean of Spiritual Life by overseeing the planning and execution of pastoral care liaison work with other units in Spiritual Life and Student Life worship experiences and other programs and events that nurture the spiritual needs and strengthen the spiritual formation of the University community.

Qualifications

  • An earned masters degree in theology religion ministry or a related field
  • 15 or more years of full-time relevant experience including general pastoral ministry faith formation significant ministry with emerging adults intercultural engagement assessment and the demonstrated ability to lead teams toward goal attainment within organizational settings
  • A deep understanding and appreciation of Baylors Baptist heritage while affirming other Christian traditions
  • Experience in faith formation work in a context of higher education
  • Significant training in pastoral care and student learning
  • Understanding of Baptist life other Christian traditions and major world religions
  • Leadership in managing multiple units with an emphasis on teamwork collaboration community and belonging assessment resource management and continuous improvement
  • Ordained minister

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in theology religion ministry or a related degree

*All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

What You Will Do

  • Offer spiritual guidance and support to students faculty and staff fostering a sense of belonging and community
  • Oversee training and leadership of Assistant Director for Pastoral Care as well as resident and embedded chaplains in residence halls and academic areas
  • Support the planning and execution of worship services and other programs and events that nurture the spiritual needs of the University community
  • Develop and oversee departmental budget assessment and strategic operational planning
  • Teach and mentor students pursuing vocational ministry or other faith-based careers
  • Hire train supervise and evaluate staff and report on assigned areas of responsibility
  • Oversee the establishment of opportunities for faculty staff and students to develop their knowledge and experience of spiritual wellbeing
  • Work on special projects as assigned and assist with coordination of special events
  • Serve a diverse academic environment inclusive of students faculty and staff of many social economic cultural ideological racial and ethnic backgrounds
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylors mission.
  • Ability to comply with university policies.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
