POSITION:MENTOR TEACHER (GENERAL POSTING) (Job # 3108)

LOCATION:TBD

POSITION SUMMARY: To assist new/beginning teachers 2ndor 3rd-year teachers or teachers on intensive development plans as per specific performance responsibilities listed below. Assigned to assist teachers in developing classroom management instructional skills and/or administrative skills on an as needed basis.

REPORTS TO: Principal

EDUCATION CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE: At the time of application the candidate must hold or be eligible for:

  1. A Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate Standard Professional Certificate Advanced Professional Certificate Initial Professional License (IPL) Professional License (PL) or Advanced Professional License (APL).
  2. At least three years of PreK-12 teaching experience with a satisfactory evaluation.

KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS: (These are pre-employment knowledge abilities and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of employment the candidate must:

  1. Have tenure and satisfactory teaching experience with Calvert County Public Schools.
  2. Demonstrated skill in using a variety of innovative instructional strategies and techniques including technology.
  3. Demonstrated skill in using a variety of successful management and discipline strategies.
  4. Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication.
  5. Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students teachers staff central office personnel parents and community members.
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
  7. Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Helps to incorporate teacher(s) into the culture of the system school and community.
  2. Serves as a role model for the new/beginning teachers 2ndor 3rd-year teachers or teachers on intensive development plans.
  3. Shares strategies skills and resources with new/beginning teachers 2ndor 3rd-year teachers or teachers on intensive development plans.
  4. Meets with new/beginning teachers 2ndor 3rd-year teachers or teachers on intensive development plans on a regular basis(s) (At least once a month).
  5. Participates in the new/beginning teacher workshop and orientation session as required.
  6. Assists teachers in developing classroom management skills instructional skills and/or administrative skills.
  7. Participates in the mentor training session at the beginning of the school year.
  8. Meets with administration minumum quarterly to determine best strategies to support building vision and goals with the mentees.
  9. Completes and submits logs for each mentee in the Professional Learning platform in a timely fashion.

OTHER DUTIES: Performs related work as required or assigned by the school principal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.

UNUSUAL DEMANDS: May be subject to a flexible work schedule.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Extra-Duty Extra-Pay (EDEP) Position

FLSA STATUS:Exempt

EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION:On or after August 1 2025.

EVALUATION:Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.

Interviews may begin 14 days after original posting depending on need of schools. References must be directly related to work experience and must include immediate supervisor.

State law requires that anyone hired after October 1 1986 who will have contact with school children must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.

Pursuant to Section 6-113.2 of the Education Article Annotated Code of Maryland - House Bill 486 - Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention all applicants are required to report all former employers in which you may have had direct contact with minors.
