Job Description

Overview

We are seeking aHuman Subjects Protection Scientistto support the Science & Technology (S&T) Directorate of the Compliance Assurance Program Offices (CAPO) Human Research Protections Group (HRPG) at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

CAPO HRPG works to ensure that the rights and welfare of human subjects are adequately protected in research via its regulatory oversight and compliance activities as well as through its issuance of departmental standards and guidance.

This position is a contingent position that is subject to a federal contract award.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts research dealing with the understanding of human diseases and the improvement of human health.
  • Engages in clinical investigation research and development and other related activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Arts/Science Degree or Masters Arts/Science Degree in lieu of experience.
  • Three (3) ten (10) years of experience.
  • Possess a DHS security clearance.
  • Experience in human research protections or other direct ethical/HRPP/IRB experience to include but not limited to protocol development and reviews and the ability to apply knowledge of pertinent human research protections laws and regulations.
  • Experience with or ability to assist in the development of human research protections requirements based upon Federal state local and other laws and guidelines.
  • Prior experience within the DHS or other Federal systems and processes.
  • Experience in compliance monitoring and/or auditing within a research enterprise and/or regulatory affairs disciplines highly preferred.
  • Ability to cross train others on auditing and monitoring principles is highly preferred.

  • Occasionally reaches above shoulder level and occasionally uses both hands.
  • Constantly stands or walks for more than 25 minutes at a time.
  • Constantly bends reaches or twists repeatedly.
  • Occasionally kneels squats or stoops.
  • Constantly has clear vision (near and/or far) depth perception peripheral vision and/or visual acuity.
  • Occasionally communicates with others to exchange information.
  • Constantly assesses the accuracy neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Occasionally works in noisy environments.
  • Constantly wears PPE including but not limited to gloves face shields/goggles safety glasses safety shoes and lab coat.
  • Occasionally comes in contact with chemicals such as aerosols biological inhalants plastics inorganic dust and powders etc.
