Job Title: Ready Mix Concrete - Special Projects & Operations Development Lead

Position Summary:
Sorrento Lumber & Concrete is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking individual to fill the role of Special Projects & Operations Development Lead within our Ready-Mix Concrete Division. This high-impact role is part of our strategic succession planning initiative and is designed for a future leader committed to operational excellence innovation and team development. The ideal candidate will oversee and enhance operational performance across fleet management batch plant operations equipment maintenance and technology systems. This role will champion safety security communication systems and process improvement ensuring alignment with companys future goals and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Oversight:
- Supervise and improve fleet performance vehicle utilization and preventative maintenance schedules
- Oversee batch plant efficiency equipment calibration and production readiness
- Coordinate with dispatch plant and fleet teams to improve efficiency in concrete deliveries
- Technology & Systems Management:
- Lead implementation training and optimization of Command Alkon suite (TrackIt Dispatch Load Assurance etc.)
- Oversee Samsara communications and telematics systems for visibility tracking and driver safety
- Identify opportunities for automation and improved data-driven decision making
- Communications & Coordination:
- Serve as a primary liaison between drivers dispatch and maintenance teams to ensure service continuity
- Implement and maintain communication protocols for downtime emergencies and field response
- Drive real-time problem solving to minimize service interruptions
- Safety & Site Security:
- Support company-wide safety initiatives in coordination with QC HR and Safety departments
- Assist with site security infrastructure including gates cameras and access management
- Promote a proactive safety culture through training accountability and compliance tracking
- Leadership & Project Development:
- Participate in leadership training strategic planning meetings and operational reviews
- Manage special projects such as plant upgrades new fleet implementation and process overhauls
- Support cross-departmental initiatives and contribute to long-term planning for concrete division growth
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree
- 5 years experience in ready mix concrete operations fleet or plant management
- Working knowledge of Command Alkon systems (TrackIt Dispatch Load Assurance etc.)
- Familiarity with GPS and telematics systems such as Samsara
- Strong mechanical understanding of batch plants heavy equipment and fleet vehicles
- Excellent communication leadership and organizational skills
- Proven history of managing cross-functional teams and leading projects
- Comfortable with data analysis reporting tools and performance KPIs
- High degree of integrity adaptability and a desire for long-term leadership growth
