Job Description: Teacher of the Hearing Impaired Assistant (TOH-A)
Reports To: Hearing Impaired Teacher Director of Student Services
General Description: The Teacher of the Hearing Impaired Assistant supports students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing by assisting with hearing equipment reinforcing instruction facilitating communication and promoting inclusive educational access under the direction of the Teacher of the Hearing Impaired.
Preferred Qualifications and Characteristics:
- Experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is highly desirable.
- Basic knowledge of hearing loss hearing technologies and communication strategies for students with hearing impairments.
- Familiarity with American Sign Language (ASL) or a willingness to learn; professional development opportunities will be provided.
- Patience empathy and a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative educational team.
- Dependability adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associates degree or higher in a related field is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Teacher of the Hearing Impaired in supporting students with hearing impairments in a variety of educational settings.
- Perform daily checks and troubleshooting of student hearing devices (including hearing aids cochlear implants and FM systems) to ensure proper functioning.
- Support students and staff in understanding and using hearing equipment and assistive technologies as needed throughout the school day.
- Reinforce lessons and instructional materials provided by the Teacher of the Hearing Impaired.
- Facilitate effective communication between students with hearing impairments their peers and school staff.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and related service providers to support student success and access to curriculum.
- Observe and document student performance and provide feedback to the supervising Teacher of the Hearing-Impaired
- Assist with classroom accommodations modifications and individualized education plan (IEP) implementation.
- Encourage and model inclusion respect and communication for students with diverse learning and communication needs.
- Participate in training and professional development related to hearing impairment assistive technology communication techniques and American Sign Language (ASL).
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to students and school personnel.

Terms of Employment: 7 hours per day 10 month position.
Salary: $28.00/hr
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of support services.
