Job Description

1. SUMMARY

The mission of the NATO Science & Technology Organization (STO) is to help position the Nations and NATOs S&T investments as a strategic enabler of the knowledge and technical advantage for the defence and security posture of NATO and Partner Nations.

The Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) is chartered to provide executive and administrative support to the Chief Scientist in fulfilling his/her roles as the Chair of the STB and the senior scientific advisor at NATO Headquarters.

The Strategy & Policy Branch (SPO) provides the primary support to the Chief Scientist in the roles of Chair of the NATO Science & Technology Board (STB) and Head of the OCS. The branch drafts and develops the STB guidance for the STO and the NATO S&T community and oversees its implementation. Furthermore SPO promotes STO partnerships performs outreach to NATO S&T stakeholders and prepares strategic messages for the Chief Scientist at STO corporate level.

The Officer Coordination & Outreach provides support to the Chief Scientist in promoting the STOs strategic outreach to the NATO S&T Enterprise and the broader ecosystem by fostering programme coordination and knowledge exchange. The incumbent contributes to building new and strengthening existing relationships and thus supports the implementation of the NATO S&T Strategy and the NATO S&T Priorities.

3. MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

The incumbent is responsible for:

- Coordinating the STO contribution to the NATO defence planning process;

- Developing and promoting policies guidance and procedures aimed at fostering knowledge exchange on S&T matters within NATO with Allied and Partner Nations and with international organizations;

- Coordinating the STO PoW and the S&T activities of other NATO PoWs by ensuring NATO S&T Strategy and NATO S&T Priorities alignment;

- Coordinating the STO contribution to capability development programmes (e.g. Smart Defence Agencies);

The incumbent reports to the Head of Strategy & Policy and has by the nature of the post daily interactions with the Chief Scientist members of the OCS and International Military Personnel or NATO International Civilians and with other international organizations.
